5-Year Contracts

On May 11, 2018, the Northwest Herald Editorial Board wrote that school administrators should not be given five-year contracts.

An excellent position since school board members have four-year terms.

The same situation exists with the five year agreement that former Algonquin Township Road Commissioner Bob Miller signed with Local 150 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

That purports to take massive decision-making power out of the hands of the man who beat Miller, not to mention the Road Commissioner who will be elected in 2021.

Has the NWH ever written an editorial about the Algonquin Road District agreement based on the principle expressed in the above editorial?

5-Year Contracts — 6 Comments

  1. Indeed they have not Cal.

In fact, I don’t think they have ever mentioned, much less featured, anything about how Bob saddled the Road District with a union contract on his way out the door that gave job security to his own relatives.

Their focus has been on Gasser’s legal fees, most of which have gone towards trying to undo this situation.

In fact, if you look at today’s online edition, all SIX of most recent article featured under the “Local Government” section (actually five there and today’s headline grabber which makes it six) are about Algonquin Township.

  2. Or did the employees decide this, have the election and that’s how it came to be?

I don’t know this but usually how it happens

  3. Short answer to Cal’s final question:

NO, and the NWH never will.

Here’s one: Will the NWH still be around by Jan 1, 2020?

    I hope not!

  4. To “The Mrs.” ………..You are a township shill.

    Get lost!

  5. It’s amazing that we pay Stevenson High school taxes and have zero blue ribbon awards, nor anything even close to the product that it’s puts out.

But hey, lets reward our admins as if…

  6. Just make them “Lifetime” contracts like judges.

These wondrous rats deserve to feed upon us bc we stupidly allow them!
