Algonquin Township Asks IDOT to Keep Speed Limit on Route 62 at 55 MPH

The speed limit on Route 62 is now 55 MPH between Algonquin through Barrington Hills.

The Algonquin Township Board passed a resolution Wednesday night asking the Illinois Department of Transplantation not to lower the speed limit from 55 Miles Per Hour to 45 MPH .

That’s what happened west of the Barrington Hills Village Hall when Route 62 was widened from two to four lanes to Barrington Road.

This part of Route 62 west of the Barrington Hills Village Hall has a speed limit of 45 Miles Per Hour because it has curbs, according to IDOT.

Route 72, on the other hand, west of Hoffman Estates remained at 55 MPH when it was widened to East Dundee.

The speed limit on Route 72 between East Dundee and Hoffman Estates is 55 MPH.

The difference is that there are no curbs on Route 72, which there are curbs on Route 62.

The resolution is below with apologies for the poor copy:

  1. If 45 MPH was deemed a safe limit on a 4-lane, the perhaps it should be 40 MPH on a 2-lane road.
