Arrest of Marengo Man for Hit and Run in Accident That Kllled Woman on Go-Kart on River Road

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Hit and Run Crash September 23, 2018

A 29-year-old woman from Elgin, Illinois, was killed Saturday evening following a vehicle crash in the 22200 block of River Road of unincorporated Marengo Township.

Saturday at 10:20 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Marengo Police Department, McHenry County Conservation Police, Boone County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marengo Fire Protection District responded to a reported crash involving a 2011 Toyota Camry and a Manco

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Manco go kart driven by the 29-year-old woman, was traveling westbound on River Road.

The Toyota, driven by 26-year-old Brett Herold of Marengo, Illinois, was also traveling westbound on River Road when it struck into the back of the Go-kart.

Herold left the scene of the crash and was located after a short period of time and taken into custody.

The driver was the only occupant of the Go-kart and was transported by Marengo Rescue to Northwestern Hospital in Woodstock, where she was pronounced dead.

Herold did not sustain any injuries.

That area of River Road was closed for approximately 6 hours.

The investigation is being conducted by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office – Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroners’ Office.
