Serial Sign Thief in Lakewood?

Remember my article Sunday about signs being stolen that I had put along my neighbor’s property on heavily-traveled Lake Avenue in Lakewood.

Today I was out looking for the mail and saw the husband picking up leaves.  (God bless him.  That means they won’t blow in our yard.)

I walked toward him along the road to ask if he was willing to file a Police Report, as I did half a dozen times two years ago when someone kept stealing my Donald Trump signs (which were hard to get, because Trump put hardly any money into Illinois.)

As I got to the Gate 11 sign, what should I see, but the four signs that had been stolen Saturday night.

Signs stolen from Randy Hultgren’s district in Grafton Township were returned to the Algonquin Township side of Meridian Street in Lakewood, where Peter Roskam’s district ends.

A big one for Randy Hultgren, whose district starts right across Meridian Street, on which I and my neighbor front, one for State Senate candidate Craig Wilcox and a pair for McHenry County Board candidates Carolyn Schofield and Josh Howell.

At the bottom of yesterday’s article appeared the following:

This reminds me of the guy who was caught stealing a Trump sign from in front of our home two years ago.

A neighbor took a photo of his car, complete with license plate.

The Lakewood Police tracked him down, but I didn’t write a story about the guy, who lived in our subdivision, Country Club Additions.

Maybe I should dig out that police report and publish it.

Perhaps the Lauren Underwood supporter read yesterday’s article and decided not to press his luck.

  1. I mean…. these are blatantly in the eastment….

    Look at Google Images…

If the county/township/city actually did their job, they would pick these signs up for being on public property…

Sure, the sign thief shouldn’t steal signs, but the campaigns should not put signs in the easement. IF this were professional football, the penalties would offset.

  2. I couldn’t think of a scarier title for a horror movie than this headline. Sunshine blogger, thinking Hollywood? Stay tuned…8 days…tic, tock, vote, vote, tic, tock…

  3. I second spotlight’s sentiment.

Sign placement, for ALL CANDIDATES, has gotten out of control. There are VERY FEW places other than private property that political signs are legally allowed to be placed. No road sides, busy intersections etc unless on private property. Most are in the easement, right of way, or public property.

This is the law, the pertinent info is in section 20 http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/legisnet90/sbgroups/sb/900SB0655LV.html

Not sure where private property starts? Look on Athena: http://www.mchenrycountygis.org/Athena/

Can’t wait until the election is over.

  4. What is the dream of an irrelevant blogger with too much time in his hands? Out of control sign placement of course! Sunshine blogger, keep doing your job and get to the bottom of this…tic, tock, tic, tock, vote, vote, tic, tock…

  5. Sunshine blogger, I’m a little disappointed with you. Yesterday we celebrated National Cat Day in our glorious United States of America and not a single reference to the feline species in this sunshine blog. On behalf of all responsible cat owners and cat defenders, I call upon the good citizenry of McHenry County to pick up a stranded cat and drop it off in my sunshine blogger’s porch. Nobody better to take care of a feline than our irrelevant, forever hungry sunshine blogger. Stay tuned…7 days…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meow, meow, meeeeoooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww…
