Firefighter Pensions

A Friend of McHenry County Blog tallied the following pension information for firefighters from the Illinois State Comptroller’s web site:

In 2007 there were 3,753 retired firefighters and 9,039 active firefighters.
In 2016 there were 5,069 retired firefighters and 9,160 active firefighters.

In 2007 the aggregate funded ratio of all Downstate funds was 63.1 % for Fire.
In 2016 the aggregate funded ratio of all Downstate funds was 57.1 % for Fire.

Here is the information for for firefighters from the latest information reported to the State Comptroller:

  • Algonquin-LITH – 76%, $7,864,972
  • Cary Fire – 100.5%, ($23,340)
  • Crystal Lake – 66.80%, $16,121,589
  • Huntley – 77.4%, $7,063,956
  • McHenry – 233.4% Fire $ (2,736,604)
  • Woodstock – 40.7% Fire $ 14,530,504

  1. Interesting that McHenry would float a referendum for a property tax increase while excessively funding the Firemen’s pension.

    Would that be called a cash stash?

  2. Actually, I see no problem enslaving Democrat voting Millenial garbage baby’s and such, to pay for the Public Sectors future Florida condos and Viagra.

    However they could have reduced the Firefighter pension levy and increased the general fund levy.

    I wonder if anyone has access to the current levy plans for 2019 and if McHenry is going to do that?

    There is another solution: Privatize ambulance and fire protection services.
