The first thing the commanding officer does is get the list of gun owners from the local gun store.
Now a Democratic Illinois State Senator wants to provide the same opportunity in Illinois, except from state government, as you can read in this article from Illinois News Network:
Democrats call for ban on assault weapons in Illinois
Illinois Democrats have introduced an ambitious gun control bill that would ban the sale or unregistered possession of dozens of firearms labeled as assault weapons.
Deerfield Sen. Julie Morrison introduced Senate Bill 107 [text of bill here] on Wednesday. It would prohibit a range of rifles, pistols and shotguns and require every such weapon in the state to be registered with the Illinois State Police.
Owners would pay a $25 fee for that registration.
A person found in possession of one of the prohibited weapons without registration could face a Class 3 felony, which carries a prison sentence of up to five years and a $25,000 fine.
Morrison wasn’t immediately available for comment on her legislation.
Illinois State Rifle Association President Richard Pearson said he wasn’t surprised that Democrats would use their new supermajorities in the General Assembly and a cooperative governor’s office to push for a ban.
“This bill overreaches. It bans common firearms,” he said.
“It’s not really about crime.
“It’s about taking firearms away from law-abiding people.”
Pearson said the association would challenge the law in court if it’s passed.
The bill includes a provision for punishment of up to three years in prison for owning any type of assault weapon attachment.
It would only allow a person passing through the state with one of the named firearms 24 hours before they would have to leave with it, lest they be arrested on felony charges.
Illinois reported 1,490 gun deaths in 2017, the most recent year available, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

We no longer need a large standing army.
The Cold War is over.
Russia can barely feed itself.
We have not had a standing army in peacetime for most of our history.
The oceans protect us and we now have satellites to detect any incoming fleets.
Neither Canada nor Mexico will invade us with armies.
We have a boatload of nuclear missiles.
We could take the money saved and spend it giving all Americans health care, free college education at state schools, and secure retirements.
What we need now are intelligence to protect us from terrorists, border security, and a President who is at least minimally competent and not compromised, and isn’t continually shutting down the federal government.

“ROGER STONE< an eccentric longtime Republican strategist with a tattoo of Richard Nixon’s face on his back, was arrested early Friday on criminal charges that include obstruction of an official proceeding, false statements and witness tampering.
A federal grand jury impaneled by special counsel Robert Mueller charged Stone in a seven-count indictment. FBI agents arrested him at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Stone was to appear in court later Friday."
Part of the charges include working with the Russians to affect the 2016 Presidential Election campaign.

Sad that just a few counties can enslave a whole state.
Since assault style rifles account for about 2% of gun deaths, this will make us so much safer.
Assault rifle attacks get a lot of news because almost all are mass shootings.
But overall gun deaths?
Tiny minority.
This legislation is the liberal version of The Wall.
Symbolic, emotion-driven, and ineffective.
