Teachers’ Union Unites Its Opposition to Reform Candidates

The D155 Education Association has amped up its campaigning for the April 2nd consolidated election.

The union has now begun it’s social media campaign against all 3 reform candidates; previously the union was opposing just Meghan Tillson and Scott Coffey.

Teachers’ Union Unites Its Opposition to Reform Candidates — 11 Comments

  1. It’s the appearance of impropriety that makes the union endorsed candidates unacceptable.

Until about 10 years ago, District 155 was always led by successful and well known local business men and women who knew how to budget and they ran the district like they would run their own business.

That has not been the case recently as deficits have become the rule, along with ever increasing payrolls and outrageous decisions such as the bleacher fiasco at South.

    Time for a major change.

  2. Crystal Lake property tax rate in 2016 year: 3.75%
    Median Household income $82,000
Median Home or Condo value $209,000
BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) Household Expenditure data; percentage of hh income spent on property taxes: All consumer units mean 3.5% *

CRYSTAL LAKE HOUSEHOLD EXPENDITURES COMPARED TO AMERICAN EXPENDITURES ON PROPERTY TAX, AS A PERCENTAGE OF INCOME: 8.7%
    ($7837-$675)/$82,000=.08734)

    Why does this matter?

BECAUSE AT AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD INCOME AND HOME VALUE, PROPERTY TAXES IN CRYSTAL LAKE (INCLUDING THE DEDUCTION FOR HOUSEHOLD EXEMPTION) REPRESENT 8.7% OF HOUSEHOLD INCOME, compared to national average 3.54%.

    Why does THIS matter?

Because all across America and Illinois, households exhibit spending measurable patterns tied to Household Incomes, and all over America, households have an additional 5% of income to spend compared to Crystal Lake families.

This means that Crystal Lake Households have to pay for property taxes with money they might otherwise have saved for retirement, or child’s college fund, or spent on being able to afford to keep their Dog.

It means that there is a probabilistic certainty that home values in CL D155 will DECREASES annually relative to homes all over America and Illinois, as they have been in the past decade, as a function of abnormally high property tax RATES relative to tax rates all over America and Illinois.

Why is THIS relevant to School Board Spending decisions?

Because the attitude exhibited in their (entrenched regime) mailer is that they have no concern for spending beyond the means of their taxable community, and point to neighboring communities which also overspend their means–thus decimating home values–as a righteous validation of policy.

BLS Regional Percentages of HH income spent on Property taxes, By Region:

    Northeast: 5.5%

    Midwest: 3.8%

    South: 2.6%

    West: 2.9%

  3. Both of the last two contracts were overly generous, way over the cost of living increases.

  4. I will now vote for Coffey, Tillson & Justen.

Thanks for the heads up taxers!

  5. Coffey, Tillson and Justen will work for the Taxpayers / Children — Not for the Union or the Administrators!

  6. Jim’s right.

I used to be proud of the people representing us on the D155 board.

Since then, my property taxes have increased 132%, of which equal blames lies with D46.

It wasn’t clear whether it was the D155 school board or the teacher’s union writing that piece, which is an obvious sign the union is worried about losing their control.

“The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

  7. Get a yard sign and let your neighbors know who you support, most voters don’t have a clue.

  8. Jim and Susan have hit the nail on the head.

Tillson, Justen and Tillson, now have my votes along with family members.

  9. The CHSD 155 board packet is a dud.

99% of boards that have a board packet put it in pdf format for quick download.

CHSD 155 requires one to print from fliphtml5.com to pdf, which is very slow, and cuts off some print at the margins.

  10. Just more of the same.

    Vote these three in.

    Stop the Union’s power advancement.
