14th District GOP Candidate Matt Quigley Withdraws

From congressional candidate Matt Quickley’s Facebook page:

Matt Quigley for Congress

On January 4th of this year, I was the first individual to announce that I was running for Congress in the 14th Congressional District of Illinois as a candidate in the Republican Party. I held a news conference in front of the Will County Courthouse in Joliet to make that formal announcement.

Matt Quigley

I held a news conference in front of the Will County Courthouse in Joliet to make that formal announcement.

The three months that have transpired since that time has been a whirlwind of new experiences for me.

I have met some truly incredible people and I have made some new acquaintances and friends that have inspired me and made me recognize how blessed I am to be an American, living in the greatest country on earth.

Even though I have sailed throughout the world while serving our Navy as an officer, I recognize that I am still a relatively young man (32) with tremendous opportunities ahead for me. I also have responsibilities to my family.

It is with the deepest sadness that I am announcing that I am officially withdrawing from the race to focus on some personal family-related health issues.

I want to thank everyone for your support until now. Together we’ve revealed the energy that’s been hiding just under the surface of our Republican party, and I have no doubt that we will retake our district in 2020.

I will not, however, be your candidate for the 2020 race.

While this will come as a disappointment, I view it as an opportunity for our party to coalesce earlier, build our infrastructure, and have a winning team ready for 2020.

I have devoted my life to public service and making a better world, whether through the military, or in business, and I will not stop now.

Though not a 2020 candidate, I will continue to be active and work to ensure that our conservative values will have a legacy here in Illinois.

Thank you and God bless.

14th District GOP Candidate Matt Quigley Withdraws — 11 Comments

  1. You have to pay to play in 21st Century American politics, my boy.

If you don’t have the scratch yourself, then you better have powerful backing.

  2. rofl of course the guy with the best chances to beat Underwood withdraws.

Now you have Oberweis who can’t even figure out if he wants to run for Senate or House, a grateful dead fan, and a guy who doesn’t even live in the district.

Quigley actually had a lot of support.

He had way more social media engagement with supporters than the other candidates, and they were from real Republicans in the district.

He was a millennial which takes away some of Lauren’s uniqueness, he was a military vet, and he seemed like he was capable of threading the needle between the various GOP factions.

Now you won’t win that seat back.

    Clown world

  3. Oberweis should inaugurate a new ice cream flavor, Underwood Devil Ham, but the repulsive flavor is guaranteed to leave a bad taste in your mouth.

  4. Poor Kid, who got to him?

The NRC hellbent on letting Underwood preen and prance in her Soros-bought seat?

  5. Agreed, An American on, that with Quigley’s withdrawal, the chances of retaking this district next year went from slim to none, given the remaining 3 declared candidates (Malouf, Oberweis and Catella) and the one flirting with this seat, Skillicorn.

But there are other candidates thinking about running for the 14th, in addition to these men. In a recent (March 27) article in Roll Call, State Senator Sue Rezin’s name is being floated: “Political strategists with ties to the area also floated state Sen. Sue Rezin as a strong candidate.” The entire article can be viewed here: https://www.rollcall.com/news/campaigns/challengers-circle-democrats-work-hold-key-chicago-suburbs

If it is true about Rezin, who like Skillicorn, does not live in the district, than Rezin’s entry and Quigley’s withdrawal appears to have the fingerprints of Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R, 16), since Rezin lives in his district. Quigley and Kinzinger both being military men, I can see Matt withdrawing knowing there was another stronger candidate to unseat Underwood, and clearly, the 4 remaining men named previously cannot do it.

I believe Matt at his word it was out of necessity he had to withdraw, and as a real Kingdom Man (https://www.facebook.com/KingdomMenRising), he put his family’s needs ahead of anything he wants personally for himself for the love of God and his family.

How many of you received Congressman Kinzinger’s fund raising letter this past week for the first time like me? Clearly, Kinzinger is laying the ground work for a U.S. Senate challenge to Senator Duckworth in 2022, and if Rezin can win the 14th from Underwood, the Democrats will likely merge the 14th and 16th into 1 district at redistricting in 2021 when Illinois will lose 1 or possibly 2 congressional seats due to the 2020 census.

Rezin, despite not living in the district, would be a formidable and winning candidate in a Republican primary, especially if she is the only woman running against multiple men. She is an incredible fundraiser (her campaign account had nearly $400,000 at the end of last year–though under Federal rules, she cannot use that money for a congressional campaign) who would be able to compete with Oberweis’ commitment to put at least $1 million to win the primary (https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/jim-oberweis-trying-again-congress-will-pour-own-money-lauren-underwood-challenge), and to beat Congresswoman Underwood, you will need millions in addition to electability in the big leagues of campaigns. Oberweis’ year to win in Congress was 2008, and he blew it not once but twice, and at 74, Underwood will destroy him.

Let’s keep trusting and have faith with either Sue Rezin, or any other credible candidate presents themselves to run in the 14th.

  6. Why did this naïf even announce?

Clearly, he shouldn’t have announced until he got most of his ducks in order.

I don’t even know if I could vote for somebody whose name starts w a “Q”

  7. Some folks like to get attention any way they can for themselves bc they were neglected as children.

    Maybe that explains this guy.

  8. The reason for Matt Quigley’s departure was a family health issue.

Mr. Quigley is an honorable man, and his word should be taken at face value.

Mr. Quigley was not trying to get attention and health issues can come up, and claim a life.

Given the Republican State Central Committeeman for this district, Stanton Bond, passed away nearly 2 months ago, from an aggressive form of cancer he was diagnosed with in November, we are all reminded how precious life really is, and he was only 69.

Late last month, the Republican county chairmen in the 14th district promoted Mr. Bond’s deputy, Laura Pollastrini, to fill the vacancy at the state central committee: https://illinois.gop/republican-county-chairs-elect-laura-pollastrini-fill-14th-district-vacancy-illinois-republican-state-central-committee

Let’s be careful not to cast such harsh judgement on anyone, especially an honorable man like Matt Quigley.

  9. Best wishes to the Quigley family as they deal with events that are important to them at this time.

In my view it is family first, last and always.

Matt Quigley is an honorable man and his loss to us in the 14th Congressional District is regrettable.
