32-Month Investigation Leads CL Police to Tommy’s Red Hots’ Burglary Suspect

Suspect Charged in Commercial Burglary Investigation

On Tuesday, July 5 th , 2016, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Crystal Lake Police were dispatched to Tommy’s Red Hots, located at 363 W Virginia Street, for a reported commercial burglary that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect used a rock to force entry into the
business by shattering the glass entrance door.

A cash box, containing United States Currency, was taken from within the business.

On September 1 st, 2016, at approximately 2:12 a.m., Crystal Lake Police were again dispatched to Tommy’s Red Hots, located at 363 W Virginia Street, for a reported commercial burglary that had just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect used a blunt object to force entry into the business by shattering the glass entrance door.

Nothing of value was taken as the alarm had activated.

Evidence technicians processed both scenes while Crystal Lake detectives began their investigation into both incidents.

As a result of their efforts, spanning 32 months, a suspect was developed.

The case was reviewed with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office who approved the below charges. On March 21 st , 2019, an arrest warrant was subsequently obtained for:

Jermaine T. Re* (21) of Algonquin, IL
 Burglary (x2), 720 ILCS 5/19-1(a), Class 2 Felony
 Criminal Damage to Property (x2), 720 ILCS 5/21-1(a)(1), Class 4 Felony
 Theft, 720 ILCS 5/16-1(a)(1)(A), Class 3 Felony

Jermaine Re was subsequently taken into custody for the active arrest warrant. His bond was set at $50,000.
A second suspect is being sought.

This case remains an active investigation.
