GOP Chairman Calls for Witness Slips Against Pritzker Progressive Income Tax

From McHenry County Republican Party Chairman Diane Evertsen:

PROGRESSIVE TAX — WITNESS SLIP

We have been fighting diligently to Keep Illinois Flat, but it’s time to step up our game.

Today, the Senate Executive Committee will consider allowing a graduated income tax.

So, I’m calling on the entire State of Illinois to file witness slips opposing SJRCA 1.

This is your chance to have your opinion on the graduated income tax become part of the legislative process.

Witness slips are read before a bill is heard in committee. The chairperson reads the names of those who have submitted slips and if they support or oppose the bill. This information helps lawmakers decide how to vote.

  1. Groveling to pols because of your death bed level overtaxed desperation, is some next level delusion.

  2. I wish Evertsen would start doing something HERE about the section 8 people being brought out here with vouchers.

I have apartment rentals here and calls all the time from Democrats community organizers about how good and guaranteed everything is with sec. 8 housing, why I should join the program, blah, blah, blah

  3. “This year, Americans will work the longest to pay federal, state, and local individual income taxes (42 days) followed by payroll taxes (26 days), sales and excise taxes (15 days), property taxes (11 days), and corporate income taxes (5 days). The remaining six days are spent paying estate and inheritance taxes, customs duties, and other taxes.”

In Illinois (on average) you will be working for taxes until April 24: https://files.taxfoundation.org/20190409154355/Tax-Freedom-Day-2019.pdf

  4. This isn’t going to work. You are going to keep taking Ls throughout the legislative process and demoralize your activists to the point that they’ll be burned out by next year.

If you actually want to go down the legislative route start by identifying Democrats who may not support it. Even then, remember that Dems not only have supermajorities but actually can spare to lose a few votes.

Republican effort should really be on fundraising for a media blitzkrieg to oppose this next year as the election approaches. Expecting to stop this thing IN COMMITTEE with E-SLIPS when Democrats have been campaigning on this for YEARS (and winning) is just a bunch of goo goo ga ga nonsense.

We just saw like 190 something oppose a bill with e slips compared to about 3 who were for it and it still passed! What does that tell you about the efficacy of this proposed strategy?

At least she’s showing some effort though. There’s not a lot of energy in McGOPe.

  5. Glen Swanson, the chairman of the Algonquin Township Republican Central Committee, filed a witness slip for no position.
