Firing of Road District Employees Right After New Commissioner Takes Office Leads to Federal Court Suit

Surprise!

This is not about Algonquin Township.

It’s about Wauconda Township.

The Daily Herald reports two fired highway maintainers allege they were fired for supporting the losing candiate, James Munson

Scott Weisbruch won.

The plaintiffs are Joseph Wightman and Donald Rowe.

Just as the state case in Algonquin Township soearheaded by Local 150 of the Operating Engineeers, the fired workers are seeking reinstatement, back pay and benefits, plus punative damages.

They were fired about two weeks after the new Highway Commissioner took office.

Algonquin Township Road Commissioner Andrew Gasser fired three employees, two of whom were previous Commissioner Bob Miller’s sons-in-law, the other being a recent hire and former Democratice Party County Board member whom Gasser defeated in his re-election effort.

  1. They said they had a “Right,” as township parasites, to continue leeching off the taxpayers, and the new Road District Comm’r countered that it was “His Turn to leech” and that he had “a right to make room for his son and 3 nephews.”

  2. The township roadway personnel in my township (McHenry) are real idlers. I can testify to it.

  3. The suit in Wauconda will probably be completed before the Alg suit the way Gasser/Hanlon eat up property tax $$$$$ playing games.
