Ten-Year School Enrollment Changes Compared to Tax Hike — 7 Comments

  1. All increases except for 1 district.

And Harrison has a large new addition.

The other school boards are really working hard to keep their pals well paid.

For example, how many days do teachers at McHenry district 15 actually show up at school to work in a given year?

Them compare that to how many days a year full time workers at Walmart actually show up, in the you know, thing we call the real world?

  2. Enrollment down, property taxes up, and even more significantly, TRS unfunded pension liabilities attributed to the local school districts way up, and IMRF unfunded pension liabilities remain, and many of the districts also have bond debt.

The TRS unfunded pension liabilities are “on behalf” of the school district.

Governor Pritzker has proposed to lower the projected state payments to the TRS pension funds.

And Governor Pritzker has proposed to issue pension obligation bonds and depositing the proceeds in the pension funds to reduce the unfunded liability.

But that does not reduce the overall debt, as bond debt would increase, as the unfunded liability would decrease.

There is no good way out of this mess after almost 50 years of legislatively hiking pension benefits, and hiking salaries, both of which hike the pension payout and thus pension debt, even as pensions were already underfunded.

An analogy would be charging your credit card every month for almost 50 years, and not paying the balance in full even once.

Imagine the credit card interest you would have racked up after almost 50 years of credit card charges.

The interest results in a more expensive purchase.

In both credit cards and unfunded pension liabilities there is a cost in interest to finance the debt.

  3. I’ve noticed that when schools are reported on in this area, Dist. 300 typically isn’t included in the comparison, yet there is a sizable population in McHenry County who attend Dist. 300 schools.

All media, not just this blog.

  4. The reason is that d300 is under the Kane Co Regional Supt of Education.

It is in 4 or 5 counties, making data gathering difficult.

McHenry County Total Extension (does not include Kane, Cook, or DeKalb County)

(A tiny sliver of the district is in DeKalb County.)

(First comes the levy, then comes the extension.

The levy is the request from the property taxing district to the county.

The extension is the final amount billed to taxpayers.)

    2018 – $50,432,998

    2008 – $44,106,193

    Property tax billings increased $6,326,805 from 2008 – 2018, a 14.34% increase.

    Student Enrollment.

Below is one of many different methods used to determine student enrollment.

The enrollment is district wide for all counties.

No clue which method or source was used in the chart above.

  6. Ghost, That’s an official Dist. 156 website, paid for by taxpayers to force the gay agenda down everybody’s throat.

    An outrage!
