Will Kendall County Taxpayers Be Willing to Pay RTA Sales Tax for Train Service?

Included in the $41.5 billion infrastructure proposal financed by a plethera of new taxes is $100 million to extend a Metra line into Yorkville.

Metra train.

Boone County and Rockford also have sought commuter service.

The hitch is that taxpayers the six counties served by the Regional Transportation Authority have to pay a half penny on the dollae sales tax.

That’s assuming they would be forced to pay what we pay.

  1. KANE and MCHenry counties are hundreds of millions of dollars ahead of Kendall county in funds already paid into RTA for operations and administration.

Service extensions into Sugar Grove and HUNTLEY should be taking precedent over vote buying by the governor.

Let Kendall come up with their fair matching share….then we can start to talk about running service to their county.
