McHenry Grade School Bus Driver Gets Ticket for Hitting Car, 5 Students to Hospital

McHENRY POLICE INVESTIGATE CRASH INVOLVING SCHOOL BUS

On May 24th , 2019 at approximately 4:08 PM, the McHenry Police Department responded to the intersection of Front Street (Illinois Route 31) and Anne Street for reported vehicle crash.

An investigation into the crash determined that a school bus for McHenry School District 15’s Department of Transportation was attempting a right turn onto Front Street from Anne Street.

During the turn, the school bus struck a 2002 Subaru Impreza which was travelling north on Front Street.

There were no passengers in the Subaru.

The driver of that vehicle reported a minor injury and was transported by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.

There were seventeen students on the school bus at the time of the crash. Their ages ranged from seven to eleven.

Five students were transported by MTFPD to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for precautionary measures.

The students that were not transported were reunited with their parents at the scene.

The roadway was closed for approximately one hour while the investigation was conducted and the vehicles were removed from the scene.

The driver of the school bus, GARY L. GARWOOD, 54, of McHenry, was issued a traffic citation for Improper Turning at an Intersection and released at the scene.

This traffic crash is still under investigation.
