Recreation Cannibus Co-Sponsor Allen Skillicorn Explains Position

A press release from State Rep Allen Skillilcorn:

Skillicorn Guided by Morality on Cannabis Vote

SPRINGFIELD – Following a vote by the Illinois House of Representatives to pass a measure allowing for adult use of recreational cannabis, State Representative Allen Skillicorn (R-Crystal Lake) said the following:

Allen Skillicorn

“Cannabis legalization is a loaded topic for people on all sides of the issue,” said Skillicorn.

“On a moral level, I am opposed to recreational cannabis use.

“I can say the same of the moral impact and cost of the war on drugs, even though non-medical cannabis use is morally wrong, it is also morally wrong to lock up the petty user.

“The facts make it clear that prohibition does not work.

“This why the 18th Amendment prohibiting alcohol was repealed by the 21st Amendment.

“Is the situation with recreational cannabis realistically much different?

Like so many others, I am concerned about drugs in schools, about driving under the influence, about more potent cannabis and intoxication in the workplace.

“That is why I am convinced this legislation will help.

“We can curb the illicit dealer who sells to kids under 21 with the improved enforcement structure in this bi

“We can ensure the marketplace is regulated to keep out dangerous chemicals and ensure only properly measured, tested and labeled products are available for adult use.

“This bill also contains the strongest workplace safety language anywhere in the nation, as was pointed out by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce during the Senate’s committee hearing.”

While I may disagree with recreational cannabis on a moral level, as a matter of personal liberty, an opportunity to curb the immoral war on drugs, and to improve public health and safety through a well regulated market, I voted yes on House Bill 1438.”

  1. Obviously Skillicorn did not research what happens when ‘recreational pot’ is made legal by a State.

Illegal pot sales not only continue, they increase – no tax.

Why do we have an opioid crisis? Illegal sales of fentanyl and APA pushing the creation of ‘Pain Control Centers’. Now the APA is pushing for the creation of more ‘drug rehab’ centers.

Last time I checked the federal government still lists ‘pot’ as an illegal substance – so much for Skillicorn claiming to be a Constitutionalist.

  2. Strongly disagree with Skillicorn. Disappointed by his vote.

  3. If State Representative Allen Skillicorn does run for Congress in the 14th district next year, he will have a lot of explaining to do to primary voters over his stance on this issue, and now, his vote.

On top of other issues Skillicorn has, beginning with his residency, he could have a very tough sell for his candidacy, especially the “spin” he’s giving concerning his residency in the 14th.

  4. In an interview published on April 22, State Representative Allen Skillicorn told Illinois Review the following concerning his stance on legalized recreational marijuana:

“Currently the sponsors have worked with my concerns and ideas to balance freedom with reasonable restrictions to preserve law and order. As long as that balance remains in the final bill, then yes.”

I guess Skillicorn needs to take the final bill he voted for in the House and highlight where his concerns were worked with House leadership. If he has already done this, please refer me to the link:

  5. Allen is a Libertarian, not that there’s anything wrong with that. nuff said

  6. Morally wrong, seriously?

People who smoke cannabis are immoral?

    GTFO.

You reefer madness blowhards are the ones who are seriously uneducated and willfully ignorant.

  7. “Allan is a self promoting narcasist.” What politician isn’t?
