Legislators Raise Their Salaries as They Raise Our Taxes

Instead of continuing the be paid $67,836 a year, State Representatives and Senators will receive a pay increase based on a lack of action to keep them constant.

Associate Press says it was the result of a “paperwork mixup.

What balderdash!

It was a deliberate decision someone made.

This is the first pay raise since 2008.

It’s about $1,600.

David McSweeny wrote,

“Stop the madness!

“Springfield insiders secretly negotiated a budget that includes a pay INCREASE for General Assembly members who just raised your taxes.

“I voted HELL NO. I will immediately RETURN the money to Illinois taxpayers.”

McSweeney introduced House Bill 934 to stop the pay hike.

Mike Madigan made sure it died.

Dan McConchie points out, “The Senate voted to stop COLAs. HB 837.

“The House filed a motion to non-concur so the bill is dead.”

That means House members will be thanking House Speaker Mike Madigan.

  1. Really, this isn’t hard to undo.

Simply amend the budget – if there are enough people in agreement that this error should be undone.

    Oh wait, this is Springfield….

  2. And the legislature does not come back into session until this fall.

Only way to get rid of it now is an amendatory veto.
