Kane County Board Avoids Health Insurance Vote

As some know, the health insurance benefits provided to McHenry County Board members approach the $21,000 paid in salary.

Some think a major motivating reason for running for County Board is that fringe benefit.

The Illinois Integrity Fund hit pieces combined such health benefits with mileage reimbursements to attack Republican candidates who Chairman Jack Franks wanted off the Board.

Some Republican Board candidates, such as Andrew Gasser and David Stieper in 2014, have taken that position.

The Daily Herald reports today that the issue exists in Kane County as well:

Kane County Board committee votes to keep $240,000 taxpayer-funded perk

After months of discussion about Kane County Board members being the only part-time employees in the county who receive full health and dental insurance benefits, a board committee indefinitely tabled debate about ending those benefits Wednesday.

The move prevents a politically perilous up-or-down, on-the-record vote on the perk. The vast majority of the board takes advantage of the benefits package. Full Story
