Lauren Underwood Goes All-In for Abortion-on-Demand

Late yesterday afternoon, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood went all-in for the abortion-on-demand Reproductive Health Act (RHA) signed into law last week by Governor Pritzker. Her campaign Twitter account tweeted the following:

Reproductive healthcare is a fundamental human right. Proud of our state for standing up for women, and I won’t stop fighting until every woman’s right to choose is protected. #StopTheBans

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) last Wednesday opined that Congresswoman Underwood did not respond to the NPR affiliate for comment on the RHA.

Underwood’s tweet from yesterday left no doubt where she stands on Right-to-Life. From a WBEZ article last Wednesday, NRCC Chairman, MN Congressman Tom Emmers said, “I would ask them all [Democrats targeted by NRCC] quite frankly, [IL Congresswoman and DCCC Chair] Cheri Bustos, where they stand on these issues,” Emmer said, specifically referring to abortion.

“Because we’re going to.”

Of the Republicans, only State Representative Allen Skillicorn responded to Underwood’s tweet with a tweet of his own from this morning:

We’ll see how all of the other Republican candidates respond to Underwood’s declaration on Right-to-Life.

NRCC Chairman Urges Republicans to Take Socialism Seriously

Yesterday, an opinion piece was published on FOX News from NRCC Chairman Tom Emmers concerning how real the socialism threat is to our country, and why Republicans need to be knowing what it is and how to defend our freedom in the face of the Democrats’ socialistic agenda of “Democratic socialism” including “Medicare-for-All”, the “Green New Deal” and Abortion-on-Demand including repeal of the Hyde Amendment.

James Marter Writes About Deficits and Term Limits

James Marter’s campaign issued two Facebook memes in the past 14 hours dealing with deficits and term limits. He included a graphic on term limits about all of the members of Congress who go into lobbying after leaving office. One wonders if Marter and the other Republicans running will support the Antillean Alliance of Senator Ted Cruz and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as they work together to write legislation to ban members of Congress from going into lobbying. Ocasio-Cortez told ABC This Week this past Sunday that her staff and Cruz’s staff are discussing the draft legislation.

Congressional Candidates’ Report Cards Coming Out (i.e. Campaign Fundraising Reports)

It’s June 19th, and the 2nd quarter ends a week from Sunday. Shortly afterward, the Republican congressional candidates will need to file their 2nd quarter Federal Election Commission (FEC) Campaign Fundraising Reports to the FEC, which will be made public by mid-July. This will be a good indicator how the Republican candidates are doing, and to see what the eventual nominee will be up against when Congresswoman Underwood’s 2nd quarter fundraising is disclosed.

The following candidates have filed FEC paperwork, and will be the ones required to file a 2nd quarter report: Danny Malouf, Jim Oberweis, Ted Gradel, James Marter. Anthony Catella has not filed FEC paperwork, and since Sue Rezin and Allen Skillicorn have yet to announce their congressional candidacies, they have not filed paperwork either. Though Matt Quigley ended his campaign on April 5, he will be required to file an FEC report, too.

All of the candidates, particularly James Marter, have been ramping up their appeals for campaign fundraising. The fruit of their labor will be determined when their numbers are made public next month.

The DCCC Statement on the Republicans Running for the 14th, May 31

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) issued a statement on May 31 on the heels of James Marter’s entry into the field as a candidate. Note how the DCCC highlights fundraising, and omits Oberweis’ putting $100,000 of his own money into his first quarter fundraising. The DCCC head-count of six excludes Sue Rezin and Allen Skillicorn and includes Matt Quigley:

GOP Clown Car in IL-14 Gets Even More Crowded: Republican field continues to underwhelm as sixth candidate enters the race, with more in the wings

Like clockwork, yet another mediocre Republican candidate entered the primary field in Illinois’ 14th Congressional district this week, bringing the total to six, with more candidates weighing bids. With titular frontrunner (and noted serial political loser) Jim Oberweis raising a paltry $107,450 in his first quarter as a candidate, expect more weak candidates to hop in, and for Republicans to engage in a nasty and expensive race to the right.

While the GOP primary field gets big enough for a pick-up basketball game, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood is focused in Washington on delivering for middle-class families: by working to lower the cost of health care, reversing the GOP’s tax hike on Illinois homeowners, and caring for our veterans.

The 11th Annual Congressional Womens Softball Game Benefitting Cancer Research is Today

It’s “Team Congress” versus the “Bad News Babes”, or congressional women (both House and Senate) vs. women in the news media in D.C. facing off to benefit cancer research. Chicago Sun-Times D.C. Bureau chief Lynn Sweet is playing, as well as IL Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. Lauren Underwood is not playing, but she’ll likely be in the stands cheering for Team Congress, since her D.C. roommate, Congresswoman Katie Hill, is on the Team Congress roster.

Of the 17 women on the Team Congress roster, 3 are Republicans so we can call this a bipartisan roster. The Republicans include team co-captain, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), and team co-captain Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL-2)
