Algonquin Township Board Refuses to Pay $1,562.50 Lukasik Legal Bill

Rachael Lawrence

During the routine consideration of the payment of bills for the Town Fund, Algonquin Township Trustee Rachael Lawrence asked for separate consideration of two day’s bills from attorney David McArdle

McArdle is the attorney that Township Clerk Karen Lukasik has retained to defend her in the suit that Road Commissioner Andrew Gasser has filed against her and others.

The bills were from May 30th and 31st and totaled $1,562.50.

Here is the detail from the 2.5 hours at $250 per hour billed on May 30th:

draft settlement demand; conference with client re settlement terms and follow-up; review file re counterclaim; interoffice conference re same; forward final demand to Attorney Kelly.

For the four hours of May 31st work the following description is offered:

prepare for and attend continued settlement conference; several conferences with client re same and strategy; review pleadings’ discuss statute of limitations; research re same; conference call with client re leak of settlement offer; discuss strategy.

Karen Lukasik

Lawrence contended the work was “performed for the benefit of a specific individual, not the township.”

The Township Trustees all voted to disallow the bill.

During the meeting, no mention was made of the content of the work performed.

Rockford Attorney John Nelson, the man who fought Grafton Township Supervisor Linda Moore’s battle against her Township Board when the Board tried to usurp her authority, has replaced Jim Kelly in the case.

Its next hearing is Friday in room 201 at 1:30 in the courthouse.

  2. A few helpful questions the board should ask:

Question #1 – why on earth is this Board Paying any of these bills? They aren’t obligated to pay for anything.

Question #2 – what is the settlement they are going to consider on Saturday?

Question #3 – why is the settlement secret?

Question #4 – did this board agree to Lukasik’s demands?

Question #5 – Does The Board know Lukasik filed a counterclaim that gassers Attorney asked for judgment against?

Question #6 – Do you believe everything you are told?

Question #7 -Do you like being led around by the nose?

  3. Everything is a secret scam in my great township.

Why did the state’s atty. give the Millers a pass when the evidence was overwhelming?

    That’s the question.
