Casten Supports President Trump Impeachment Inquiry, Will Underwood Support It Too?

Sean Casten

Congressman Sean Casten joins other Democrats supporting Impeachment Inquiry of President Trump. While multiple Democrats in safe districts have been calling for the impeachment process to begin with the Impeachment Inquiry, Casten is the 3rd freshman Democrat from a swing district to call for the inquiry.

Combined with his open support for the now-aborted congressional pay raise 2 weeks ago, Casten is displaying a cocky confidence that he does not need to fear what the voters in the 6th congressional district think on impeachment.

See Tribune story:

U.S. Rep. Sean Casten backs Trump impeachment inquiry, sparking campaign issue in once strongly Republican district

Republican challenger Evelyn Sanguinetti posted this Facebook meme responding to Casten’s Impeachment Inquiry support:

Evelan Sanguinetti

“Sean Casten joins socialist Jan Schakowsky and the most extreme liberal Democrats in calling for an impeachment inquiry of the President. Even Nancy Pelosi won’t go that far. It’s clear Casten cares more about pay raises and playing politics than representing the priorities of this district.

“Those who wish to remove the President from office will have the opportunity to do so at the ballot box. Enough political games and wasteful spending. Casten was sent to Washington to solve problems, not play politics.”

Great to see Sanguinetti immediately respond to this development, and continue to hit Casten on his pay raise support. Now, if she would bring up Casten trying to repeal the Hyde Amendment.

Congresswoman Lauren Underwood at this point is not supporting starting an inquiry for impeachment.

How long that will continue remains to be seen.

Evidence is Clear, Congresswoman Underwood Concerned about Sue Rezin’s Imminent Entry into 14th Congressional Republican Primary

On Monday, Congresswoman Underwood tweeted her support for health care affordability, using the backdrop of a pumpkin farm in Minooka. Yesterday, the ShawMedia owned Kane County Chronicle followed up with an article, link below. This pumpkin farm is in the northeast corner of State Senator Sue Rezin’s legislative district. If one thinks the Minooka farm’s setting is purely coincidental, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. Rezin’s imminent entry into the Republican primary has Underwood nervous and taking notice.

More proof? A tale of 2 candidates’ entry into the race. When Jim Oberweis announced his candidacy back in late February, the response from Lauren Underwood’s senior advisor Ronnie Cho, was a collective shrug:

“Ronnie Cho, Underwood’s political advisor, did not respond directly to Oberweis’ announcement and said that ‘the congresswoman is laser focused on being with her community’ and that she’s doing exactly what she promised she would on the campaign.”

The above was from an NBC 5 Chicago article from February. A similar response was given to the Sun-Times by Cho. Contrast Cho’s response to the Oberweis challenge with the following concerning Sue Rezin:

Loren Underwood

“‘Congresswoman Underwood has been the most responsive and pro-active member of Congress the district has ever seen,’ campaign spokesman Ronnie Cho said. ‘She’s not distracted by petty comments criticizing her leadership, especially by someone who doesn’t live in the 14th District.’”

Cho responded with a “dig” of Rezin for her not living in the district in the above article from WCIA article published last week. Combined with the gas tax hike criticism Jim Oberweis’ campaign launched last Thursday with the fact Rezin hasn’t formally entered the race, and a frontrunner in the 14th has emerged Sue Rezin. Rezin had around $335,000 in her state senate campaign account, which cannot be transferred into a federal race. If Rezin shows similar fundraising at the federal level by the end of the 3rd quarter, she will be formidable next year.

Jim Oberweis’ “token white male” Email; Is Age Catching up to Oberweis?

Jim Oberweis

Last month, Jim Oberweis sent an email where he described himself as a “token white male”. Today’s CapitolFax reported the contents, and a response from Jim Oberweis, which can be seen at the link below.

Reading that email, with multiple errors, most notably the spelling of Senator Dick Durbin’s last name, one must wonder if Oberweis’ age, now 73 as of June 10, is catching up with him. Yesterday, President Trump made similar observations of both Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, and CBN Founder Pat Robertson made a similar observation about Biden, too.

Yet combine this email from Oberweis, the issue with checking the wrong box back in February when filing the FEC paperwork, and Oberweis’ campaign staff publishing false information that Oberweis voted against the gas tax hike, and one has to wonder if Oberweis needs to, as 14th congressional district blogger Jeff Ward told me in a comment:

“Sadly, I am very aware of that email. Jim [Oberweis] really needs to stop running!”:

Democrats Boast of Raising $8.85 Million in May

With FEC 2nd Quarter Campaign Fundraising Reports due early next month, the following was released this afternoon from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). A reminder, the DCCC May numbers included the big-dollar donor event attended by Lauren Underwood on May 30 in southern California:

Raising $8.85M, DCCC Doubles Best Previous Presidential Cycle Off-Year May
THURSDAY, JUNE 20, 2019

Small dollar donors continue to power fundraising success, with average online gift of $17

Today the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced it raised an historic $8.85 million in May, doubling May of 2015 and outpacing any previous Presidential cycle off-year May in DCCC history.

This announcement follows the DCCC outraising the NRCC in April, $7.85M to $5.49M, as well as in the first quarter of 2019, $32.45M to $25.1M. The DCCC’s May fundraising success is anchored by $4.5 million in small dollar contributions, with an average online gift of $17. This continues the trend of grassroots support, online, on the phones, and through the mail powering the DCCC’s work to protect and expand the most diverse Majority in American history.

“We know that a Democratically controlled House is the only firewall against the recklessness of President Trump and Washington Republicans,” said DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos. “And from the incredible support of folks at the grassroots, it’s clear people across the country share our understanding that we can’t waste a moment defending and expanding the most diverse Majority in American history. Because folks at the grassroots have our backs, we’ve been able to make early field investments across our offensive and defensive battlefields, expand the map deep into Texas, and keep Washington Republicans on their heels.”

Since the start of 2019, the DCCC has launched:

An Offensive Battlefield of 33 GOP-held seats – Chairwoman Bustos believes the best defense is a strong offense which is why the DCCC began the 2019 by taking the fight to the Washington Republicans.

The Democratic Frontline Program – With a House majority for the first time since 2010, building a modern Frontline program from the ground up was a top priority for the DCCC early this year. This year the DCCC has elevated 44 Democratic Members of Congress to participate in our Frontline program.

March Forward – In an early boots-on-the-ground effort, the DCCC launched a new program to train and hire 60 grassroots field managers in dozens of communities across America.

DCCC:Texas – With six targeted GOP-held seats in the Lone Star State, the DCCC made a bold move to put a new headquarters in Austin with eight senior staffers.

And The Media Wins The 11th Annual Congressional Womens Softball Game Benefitting Cancer Research

The final score was “Bad News Babes” 10, “Team Congress” 3. Chicago Sun-TimesD.C. Bureau chief Lynn Sweet happily tweeted the result, given she played in the rout. Congresswoman Underwood also tweeted being at the game, though she did not play.

Now, if the media could have scored one more run, making the final 11-3, and the defeat score matching the date of the 2020 general election would have sent an interesting message to Underwood’s re-election prospects. Just a thought.

It’s all for a good cause.

Lauren Underwood Downgraded to Undercard Speaker in San Francisco July 29

Additional information was added for Congresswoman Lauren Underwood’s scheduled San Francisco appearance in the Mission District of the City by the Bay. According to Manny’s, the self described “people powered and community focused meeting and learning place in the heart of San Francisco that combines a restaurant, political bookshop, and civic events space.” (per Manny’s web site), Underwood’s appearance has been moved up to 6PM, from its original 7PM time. The same prices of $6 and $12 is the price of admission to see Congresswoman Underwood.

The reason for the time change was due to a 2nd appearance by a member of Congress on the same stage that same night.
Congressman Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th congressional district which includes Silicon Valley. Khanna sits on the House Budget, Armed Services, and Oversight and Reform committees and is first vice chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. He also serves as an Assistant Whip for the Democratic Caucus. Khanna also supports term limits of 12 years for members of Congress, and never accepted campaign contributions from lobbyists or PACs.

Like Underwood, Khanna was a former member of the Obama Administration, serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce. While working on his undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago, he walked precincts for Barack Obama during his first state senate campaign in 1996.

The price of admission for the main event speaker is $18-$72. Yes, Underwood literally got upstaged by the sophomore Bay Area congressman.

Also added to the July 29 event is both Underwood and Khanna will be interviewed by Silicon Valley journalist Kara Swisher. Both conversations that night will be recorded and broadcast on Swisher’s podcast Recode Decode

Jim Oberweis, Joe Ptak Exchange Facebook Comments, on Ted Gradel’s Campaign Facebook Page?

Back on June 6, Ted Gradel posted pics and a thank you to members of his church community at St. Raphael for hosting a meet and greet at one of their homes. In the comments is an interesting and candid exchange between Jim Oberweis (through his personal Facebook account), and Island Lake Patriot Joe Ptak, who was asking a question to Ted Gradel:

Joseph Ptak: Mr. Gradel are you a supporter of President Trump? I need to know if you would work to implement his policies and agenda. I know one of your GOP primary opponents is James Marter and he is a strong supporter of President Trump. Jim Oberweis is your other main opponent…and he has been noncommittal about expressing his support for President Trump. My plain simple belief is that if you don’t support my leader, President Trump, I can’t support any such Republican in a Republican GOP Primary. Hopefully, we get a chance to meet very soon…I want to make a decision on who to actively support and campaign for in my 14th Congressional District. Unfortunately, when I had lunch with Randy Hultgren, in the Spring of last year, he failed to take good advice and lost a Republican seat to Lauren Underwood…a seat that we should have never lost.

    Have a great day/weekend…God bless.

Jim Oberweis: C’mon Joe. You know better than that. The President is actually implementing many of the policy ideas that I have communicated for a dozen years – secure our borders, allow for the reimportation of American made drugs to neutralize the huge price difference, allow interstate sales of insurance policies. If we want to bring down medical care costs, we need more transparency and competition. I am very enthusiastic about most of his agenda

Joseph Ptak: Jim Oberweis …why does it trouble you to say you support him? I loathe the man at first and campaigned against him for months…but I have come to admire him as a truly great President in our history. He is not implementing anything he is LEADING the charge to get things done. I highly respect you and you should know that yourself…but when it comes to supporting my leader…I’m old school in that regard.

Ptak’s concern about Jim Oberweis’ support for President Trump has been going on for some time in social media. Indeed, the Illinois Review, in an April 3rd article, brought the previous social media exchanges to a head, where Oberweis said “I don’t like Trump’s style, but I do like his policies”. Given the exchange 2 months later, Mr. Ptak was clearly unsatisfied with Oberweis’ responses, either in April or June.

Ted Gradel did not respond openly, to Mr. Ptak’s question. Presumably, Gradel responded to Ptak offline.

And Lauren Underwood is Backing for President?: Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

Next week, it appears Congresswoman Lauren Underwood will be cheering for New York’s junior U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in the presidential debates among the Democratic candidates. Crain’s Chicago Business had this in a recent article:

“Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer is for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. And introducing Gillibrand at a recent fundraiser here was Rep. Lauren Underwood of Naperville.”

Underwood’s backing Gillibrand should be no surprise, since it was Gillibrand’s PAC which early (September 2017) backed Underwood’s primary campaign for the 14th last year.

NRCC Chair Defends His Strategy for 2020 Amid Republicans’ Criticism

Congressman Tom Emmer of Minnesota, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) was under fire this past week over concerns of NRCC strategy to retake the House next year, which includes unseating freshmen Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood.

Republicans in both the 6th and 14th need to know that the best way to fund the Republican nominees to victory next year is to help their Republican favorites themselves, and not to be dependent on the NRCC for campaign cash.

  5. Bo hoo bo hoo crybaby Tirio why is everybody picking on me. Well let’s see you cannot accept responsibility. You thought just showing up to the clerks office was enough. You lied to the state board of elections. When asked about it, you are arrogant enough to say you were adjudicate already. The NW herald reports on this perjury but your buddy Cal the sunshine blogger (crickets).
The polls show Tirio is doing a bad job. Just wait to see what happens when he has to really perform. Oh that’s right it is someone else’s fault. Oh, I have to mention Tirio won’t hire his wife but he will conspire with her to hide the information about the dealings with the republicans. I am ashamed of the Republican Party. You are suppose to be better than self serving conspirators.

  6. Just exactly who are the real a-holes who put out the disgusting creepy flyers mailed to all of us in McHenry County disparaging Tirio and Shuster?

What kind of U.S Mail code fraud was committed.

That is what this really is about, Democrat morons.
