Route 47 Through Woodstock Most Traveled Part of the Highway

Found in WSPYNews, is this factoid concerning the pending widening o Route 47 through Woodstock:

$57 million was outlined for widening in northern McHenry County.

The drafted proposal indicated 15,000 to 26,000 vehicles travel on the corridor between Route 120 and Route 14 each day, making it the most traveled area on Route 47 in the state.

That means the Illinois Department of Transportation might well have decided on the road improvement, even if specific language had not been included in the appropriations bill.

It reminds me of Marengo’s efforts to lessen flooding along Route 176.

One of the Aldermen regularly drove through Springfield and stopped to talk to IDOT officials each time about the problem.

I put in my pitch from a State Representative’s point-of-view.

When the bill came before my Appropriations Committee, prospecitve projects had been ranked in the order of need.

The ditch we wanted was number two on the priority list.

  1. Widening of 47 through Woodstock. Only about 40 to 50 years late. IDOT may likely be the worst DOT among the 50 U.S. States.

IDOT thoroughly goofed up the IL 53-12 freeway extension to the WISC border about 50 years ago. It should have been completed in 1970. Still not done. Probably will never get done. Try driving up 53, to Lake Cook Road, then to 12 and northwest on 12 on any day in the afternoon. A mess. That freeway extension still needs to be done and should be the top priority of Illinois. Rather than smoking weed. Rather than abortions. Rather than being a sanctuary State for illegal aliens which every year costs this Nation hundreds of billions of dollars.
