Underwood Bans Photographer from Re-election Announcement

A Friend of McHenry County Blog who was able to take photos of Congresswoman Lauren Underwood at the Woodstock Gay Pride Parade was turned away from the Opera House during Underwood’s event announcing her re-election.

The new Opera House manager “told me the Underwood people said no photography permitted.”

Transparency does not seem to be quality Underwood admires.

Underwood Bans Photographer from Re-election Announcement — 25 Comments

  1. Fake nurse loves fake news.

When she ‘came out’ in support of federal reparations for slavery, I asked her if descendants of union soldiers could be exempted.

    She wouldn’t say.

When I asked her if descendants of Blacks and Indians who owned slaves would be denied compensation, she said, “There weren’t any.”

    She does hate Whites.

I could see it in her jaundiced eyes.

  2. Underwood knows that she is being exposed on the blog…lol

    It’s not very pretty!

Underwood Re-election Announcement — What I Saw and Heard

WOODSTOCK — As has been reported elsewhere, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood formally announced her candidacy for re-election to represent the 14th congressional district on Saturday.  Complementing what print media has written, adding what I saw and heard at this event at the Woodstock Opera House and analysis.

Underwood’s announcement took place just before 11AM to an audience of about 75 people.  Prior to Underwood taking the stage, Senior Advisor Ronnie Cho, Kane County Democratic Chairman Mark Guethle, McHenry County Democratic Chairwoman Kristina Zahorik and McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks addressed the audience.

Upon taking the stage, Underwood retold her story of how then-Congressman Randy Hultgren promised he would not vote to repeal health care and protections for people with pre-existing conditions.  And once he voted to eliminate Obamacare, she decided to run for Congress.  The rest was history.

She talked about her legislation, The Veterans’ Care Quality Transparency Act (H.R. 2372), and the accomplishment of passing this bill out of the House on a unanimous voice vote on May 21, noting “bipartisanship” is rare.  She told the audience how she is working to insure taxpayers receive an increase to the state and local taxes (SALT) deduction limits (H.R. 1757), noting most in the audience paid more federal taxes this year.

Underwood also responded to the opposition to her and why all of her supporters need to work even harder in 2020.  She joked about the “Fake Nurse” moniker Republicans, in particular the National Republican Congressional Committee, have attached to her.  Upon completing her speech of 20 minutes, she posed for a group picture and left.  Chicago Sun-Times D.C. Bureau Chief Lynn Sweet tweeted yesterday she gave a 2nd announcement at a BBQ in Plainfield in the late afternoon.

ANALYSIS:  I genuinely prayed for Congresswoman Underwood prior to her taking the stage and after she took the stage, praying she would really rise to the occasion.  My prayers were not answered.  Congresswoman Underwood missed a golden opportunity when kicking off her re-election campaign to really set herself apart from all of the partisanship in Washington.  Given what happened and how she voted on the House floor on Thursday, she had a real story to tell, to really set her apart from both Republicans and Democrats alike.  She didn’t, and decided to play it safe.

Underwood should have discussed the real bipartisanship she applied and supported for the formal passage of the Senate-amended H.R. 3401, the appropriations bill for emergency funding for the southern border.  After the Senate amended the original House bill on an 84-8 vote, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was convinced by Democrats from the Problem Solvers Caucus and the Blue Dog Coalition, led her caucus to pass the Senate-amended legislation as is.

Underwood should have strongly said to her audience on Saturday she voted for getting the urgent funding to the southern border amid the crisis, and defend Speaker Pelosi did the right thing.  And unlike the legislative accomplishments she touted yesterday, the appropriations bill approved on Thursday will be signed by President Trump upon his return from the Far East.

As reported in POLITICO, Pelosi listened to the Democrats in the Problem Solvers Caucus — a bipartisan group of moderates that pushed Pelosi to take up the Senate bill.  This inflamed progressives within the Democratic Party and caused real hatred to explode, including:

    — Congressman Mark Poncar tweeted on Thursday afternoon prior to the final vote: “Since when did the Problem Solvers Caucus become the Child Abuse Caucus?”
    — Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told POLITICO:  “I think the Problem Solvers Caucus is emerging to be this tea party within our own Democratic Party”

The Democrats easily throw the word “hate” around about President Trump, Republicans and Christians applying Scripture to public policy.  Underwood could have stood up, even at her re-election announcement, and champion the need that as she represents all residents in the 14th district, and just like she says in Twitter, “Hate has no place in our community or anywhere in our country.” and strongly say within Congress, too.  No one can read the statements from her Democratic colleagues, particularly Congressman Poncar without seeing/feeling real hatred over the bipartisan solution and vote from Thursday.

Underwood should have jumped on the hatred from her Democratic colleagues unleashed on other Democratic colleagues.  Opportunity missed, in favor of stoking partisanship for her re-election, instead of statesmanship.  This is where Underwood should take a lesson from President Trump, and what he did within 24 hours after her announcement.

President Trump became the first President of the United States to set foot in North Korea, and had a face-to-face with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.  And may the world be a much safer place for the risk the President took to meet with North Korea face-to-face after stepping foot into North Korea.  When I first heard this, I immediately thought about the famous phrase from the early 1970s, “Only Nixon could go to China.”  Coincidentally, that phrase was first said by a Democrat.

Congresswoman Underwood could have had a similar, maybe not historic, moment if she had taken the risk of telling her enthusiastic supporters and others in attendance that she is going to represent all people in the 14th district, and stay above the partisan wars which takes place from both sides of the aisle.  Regrettably, she chose partisanship.

Underwood’s kind of “playing it safe” strategy is one of many reasons Republicans have a very real chance to win back the 14th in 2020.

  4. Taken out of the bolshevik play book.

I thought the TAXOCRAT party was open to all?

  5. Socialist, communist, fascist, evil, bad, bad, bad, very bad and ugly Underwood is obviously implementing the initial phase of curtailing the civil liberties of the good citizens of McHenry County after brutally crushing the first amendment rights of the good friend of this sunshine blog trying to give us quality and transparent information of that event…or perhaps an obnoxious ridiculous loser was turned away after trying to get an at-your-face terrible picture to be posted in this sewer sunshine blog; one of he two. I’m not saying, I’m just saying. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock…meeeeeeoooooooowwwwwwwwwwww…

  6. Could be they were aware the photographer is a friend of this blog and aware of the racist comments whenever there’s a story appeared about her on this blog.

  7. There are no racist comments on this blog.

The only racist comments come from “UNDERWOODNOW” whom I have been told is Lauren Underwood and her Mother.

    Truth be told!

Lauren Underwood is nothing but a pawn for the Democrats, who serves no purpose in the 14th!

  8. The hatred for this woman is being belief.

I guess the local GOP can’t get over their Republican monopoly being shattered.

  9. No Republican monopoly has been shattered delusional Joe Kvidera.

The truth about Laure Underwood is being told and you can’t handle it!

The proper thing to occur is that Carlos Acosta and Lauren Underwood march out of town under the darkness of night.

    CALLING TED NUGENT!

  10. “There are no racist comments on this blog.” In this pro-life, fake christian family values, God fearing, gun clinging, fiscally responsible, King James Bible, back-the-badge, America first, second amendment, tax fighting, business first, never labor, sewer sunshine blog, the entertainment never ends…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meeeeeeoooooooowwwwwwwwwwww…

  11. Ah the voices in your head Angel, keep us amused as the dementor’s King you really are.

I’ll admit it. I HATE Baby killers and liars. The would be the Democrats.

  12. What Truth is being told about Congresswoman Underwood? That she’s a woman, black and a registered nurse? That’s what keeps getting brought up here. Shes also holding regular meetings with constituents, responding to questions and messages. In general she’s acting like a,representative should.

  13. Those regular meetings with constituents appearing to respond to questions and messages are nothing but damage control for her upcoming campaign: another facade.

Lauren does not act like a representative should. She never has. Representatives don’t go around wearing stethoscopes on their necks and promoting the Girls Scouts as a way of promoting their credibility. Lauren has no credibility.

  14. The Woodstock Opera House is owned by the City of Woodstock.

The staff of a taxpayer funded facility can refuse to allow the public to take photographs of those using the taxpayer funded facility?

“Supported as a full City Department by the City of Woodstock, the dedicated staff also manages the summer Woodstock City Band concerts; coordinates parades, special events, and weddings on the Square; and, schedules and staffs musical offerings and private party rentals at Stage Left Cafe next door.”

  15. **The staff of a taxpayer funded facility can refuse to allow the public to take photographs of those using the taxpayer funded facility?**

If someone is renting it out for a private event?

    Sure they can.

  16. DALA: “There are no racist comments on this blog.”

Also DALA: “Underwood comes from the most “MOST UN-EVOLVED “culture in US HISTORY! The Black Race!”

It is truly embarrassing how vitriolic the comments here are towards Lauren Underwood.

It is amazing how difficult of a time people have with a black woman representing them.

  17. The fact that they did not allow pics, shows they are hiding something.

Lauren and her Entourage have a lot to hide: mainly the truth.

  18. What law is that?

It’s public property and she’s a government official.

  19. **What law is that?**

I don’t know, to be honest, but public buildings are rented out for private purposes all the time. But I suspect that when the Opera House holds plays there, they also at times ban photography for those too.

**It’s public property and she’s a government official.**

Her being a government official is irrelevant. It wasn’t a government event. It was a private (i.e. campaign) event.

  20. Sunshine blogger, it is time to stop relying on “friends” of this sunshine blog and start taking care of things yourself again. This entire controversy could have been avoided if you had jumped in and courageously shot one of those pictures in the same fashion you took all those legendary in-your-face pictures of Jack D. Franks (Jack Franks is a Democrat) at County Board meetings. Come on, make us proud and deliver good old fashion journalism to this illegitimate congresswoman. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meeeeeeoooooooowwwwwwwwwwww…

  21. Definition of Illegitimate–means corrupt, unprincipled and villanous.

Angel is talking out of the side of his mouth…lol
