McSweeney Criticizes Chicago Shootings

David McSweeney

From State Rep. David McSweeney:

“The time is now to take bold action to stop the violence in Chicago!

’59 people were shot and 7 of those people died this past weekend.”

We need to eliminate bail eligibility for violent gang members and enhance penalties for criminals who use a gun while committing a crime.”

  1. No, McSweeney, the purpose of bail is to ensure the criminals show up for trial.

Also, there’s already enhanced penalties for offenders convicted of crimes while armed.

There are numerous penalties for all sorts of gun related offenses.

What we DO need is appropriate bonds set by the court and appropriate sentencing by those same courts after first ensuring that certain state’s attorneys whom we cannot mention (Cook County) because it would be politically incorrect, actually prosecute these individuals to the full extent of the law.

The current trend in some areas (Cook County) is to waive bail, decline to lodge felony charges, cut deals for probation or minimal time to the very individuals responsible for the types of crime that are viewed as commonplace in some places (Cook County).

Instead the legislative wisdom seems to be: We know we’ll never get all the guns off the street and out of the hands of the criminals, but let’s do the “next best thing” and remove the guns from the law abiding citizenry – the majority – and it will show we’re doing something about the problem even though it’s as effective as having a vasectomy because your neighbor down the street has too many children!

  2. Oh But Eddie Johnson goes on TV / News and says Crime is down… how can this be?

is he perpetuating “fake news” are the programs he is featured on giving us fake news?

are we being lied to ?

  3. This guy is an idiot as pointed out by “Give Us A Break”!

How about publicizing the leniency of Cook County Judges and Prosecutors?

Smollett was the tip of the proverbial ice berg!

  4. Yes, that is the problem exactly. These people who are accused of murdering people are always bailing out. Ummm, what?
