Algonquin Township Admits Authorizing Tax Protest Settlements in Secret Meetings

Having not found any evidence that the Algonquin Township Board authorized its attorney Jim Kelly to settle tax protest complaints in a public meeting, I raised my concern with the Illinois Attorney General’s Public Access Bureau.

I asked whether the Open Meetings Act had been violated.

Below is what was requested by the Public Access Counselor of Algonquin Township:

Note the quote from the Open Meetings Act in the footnote:

There was no timely answer, so a second request was sent:

Here is attorney Kelly’s reply:

  1. Anyone see Gasser at work today?

Prior days with no confirmed sightings by bloggers

  2. Half the free world is on vacation right now.

Anyone think maybe Gasser is doing the same?

  3. Kelly’s letter shows his incompetence.

Sentence two and sentence four are not in proper, or even comprehensible, English.

    So Algonquin Township overtaxed again.

Why is Kelly still the township Shylock?

  4. Can anyone verify Mr. Lutzow’s stroke?

    $148,000!

Why can’t they pay all ripped off taxpayers?

Townships are so hideous, they don’t even try to hide their corruption.

  5. Cal costs us big money on frivolous quests Don Quixote would eschew.

As Hillary said, “What difference does it make!?”

  6. is Mr. Lutzow really stricken? What does “Sippy” know? What does Clown Kelly know”

  7. How come the overtax wasn’t paid to all the taxpayers?

How much did Kelly pay to broker the deal.

Shouldn’t he have stopped an over-accumulation?

Claw back his ill gotten gains.

This is why I hate townships.

    It’s all so crooked.

  8. Looks like the MILLERS sunk yet another Friend Kelly judge mike the list goes on !!

Where there is smoke there is fire

  9. Here is how it’s done with Hide it All Kelly.

Tax payer sued the treasurer for over accumulating money at township level.

Without any board action Kelly files an appearance on behalf of the Township and files documents to intervene in the lawsuit on behalf of the Township.

The Township Clerk doesn’t ever include his representation in any book or record of the Township.

Hide it all bills TOI and then money flows.

The township of course pays TOI for insurance to cover the bills.

It’s a much better gig because his bills never see the light of day.

The law is completely clear but Kelly fights it all the way to trial and loses.

    More fees.

    The treasurer pays taxpayer.

The board never sees a payment from a Township account because the treasurer pays it out before the township receives anything.

Abracadabra it’s laundered right in the courthouse and John Q. Public won’t find a single record of it in its records.

    Not a single pleading.

If the settlement authority is in secret like this waive the majicwand!Township passes increased levy and the game repeats.

  10. Wow, a taxpayer sued and got $$$$ back.

    Got to look into it.

McHenry township has to be worse.

  11. Every single one of these types of suits needs a good lookin into
