Some regular readers suggest I require Facebook identification.

Others want censorship of outrageous things anonymous people write.

From Scott Santis.

I think I’m happier when other anonymous commenters call out those who write outrageous comments.

  1. I discount the anonymous insults, the slogans and meme-talk, the generalities not backed up by evidence or logical argument, the folks who say what others think and then say why they’re wrong.

And to the anonymous folks within general, how much credibility do you think you get when you won’t put your name on your opinion?

If you read even the first 20 pages of the Mueller report, you learn that misinformation is a problem.

The electorate is responsible for checking facts and thinking about arguments.

If we don’t, we’re misled by Russians trying to undermine our democratic process, politicians and their people lying to convince us, and, yes, bad journalism at times.

In that context, the incivility and illogic often seen here can be looked at as practice in how to deal with all that.

  2. I swear if anyone tries to force me to join Facebook, I’ll report them to ICE for immediate deportation.

  3. When the NWH and other media started to require full identification to comment, the entertainment value was greatly diminished and readership dropped drastically.

Keep it somewhat anonymous to provide the entertainment.

Everyone knows that all posters on Cal’s blog are subject to subpoena.

BTW, Google, Facebook,Twitter and politicians such as Franks and Madigan make the Russians look like amateurs.

  4. If you want to lose the candid willingness of people to comment by all means do what Sippy Cup wants.

However, note that Edgar County has far fewer comments on their site than this one even with the same article.

That’s because people, like me, feel free from retaliation here, but know if they write on ECW they will have to fight with people for exposing the truth.

  5. If you do that, readership and posts will plummet to next to nothing. Just like the FakeNews NWH, a dying fishwrap.

Word to few remaining employees of NWH: get your resumes out fast.

Remember what Eddie Komenda’s last words — This paper is a chicken-s### operation. I’m sick of flacking for Franks. Seeya.

  6. Personally, I like comments here on this blog the way it is.

Free from Facebook monitoring, and given Facebook uses many ex-ACLU people to set standards, I wouldn’t be surprised many more posts on Facebook get taken down, as well as Twitter and Google/YouTube.

The owner of 8chan has been subpoenaed by House Homeland Security to appear early next month in the wake of El Paso shootings.

If anything really suspicious shows up here, especially going into the 2020 election season, Cal will notify the appropriate people as he sees fit.

The readership of this blog I am sure is high, too, and will go up as we move into the fall and campaign 2020 becomes more active on the local level.

Not everybody who reads articles on this blog comments, or they comment very infrequently.

  7. “The readership of this blog I am sure is high, too,…”.

    I’ve wondered about that.

  8. Why play info the elites’ oppression?

Did Styf get hired to run this blog?

  9. Believe me, signal intelligence monitors all internet traffic.

  10. Their issue is the lag time.

Too much to monitor/sort in real time.

Anyone that tells you different is full of sh*t

  11. Very amusing set of comments, these. I’ll summarize:

“If I had to sign my own name I’d be too scared to talk sh@t the way I do. I’m only brave when there’s no way to be held accountable.”

  12. When Lauren Underwood was bravely parading around as a fake nurse and wearing a stethoscope, during her campaign, she wasn’t afraid to let the world know who she really is. That speaks volumes!

  13. Folks want anonymous comments so that people like DALA can continue to say racist stuff and no one knows who he/she is.

  14. Let’s unseat Jack Franks at the next election!

    He supports Underwood’s antics!

  15. Martin said:

“The electorate is responsible for checking facts and thinking about arguments.

If we don’t, we’re misled by Russians trying to undermine our democratic process, politicians and their people lying to convince us, and, yes, bad journalism at times.”

The Russians. The Russians are trying to undermine our democratic process he says. But, nothing new here. They have been doing their misinformation for many, many years. In the U.S. and other nations. Their feeble efforts on social media in 2016 was insignificant when compared to the bias shown by our mostly left wing “Fourth Estate”, TV cable and network news and some big newspapers in the U.S.

Regarding posting comments without using an actual name – When our nation gets to a point where all demonstrators, marchers in the street have to first show their photo ID and their names are registered, then perhaps blogs and newspapers will have to require actual names. The demonstrators, such as antifa, will have to show photo IDs and not be allowed to wear masks or hoods.

Is Martin OK with antifa mobs wearing black masks and hoods and beating people up? Is that free speech?

  16. “Is Martin OK with antifa mobs wearing black masks and hoods and beating people up? Is that free speech”? My republikkklan professor comically forgets about the KKK. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock…
