New Crystal Lake Grade School Board Member Appointed

From Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47:

District 47 Welcomes New Board Member

Emily Smith

On August 19, 2019, the District 47 board of education appointed Emily Smith as a newly elected board member.

Smith will replace Eileen Plasgrove, who retired from the board after serving for the past six years.

“We were lucky to have Eileen Palsgrove on our board and thank her for her years of service,” said Rob Fetzner, board president.

“At the same time, we are delighted to gain a new board member who’s a long-time Crystal Lake resident, a leader in our community, and a parent in our school district.”

A mother of two children (and soon to be three!), Smith is a religious education teacher at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Crystal Lake and serves on the PTA at Glacier Ridge Elementary School.

Smith is a commercial realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Starck Real Estate and owner of MLE Designs – a home staging and decorating company.

Before that she worked for McHenry County College as a service learning and volunteerism coordinator.

Smith is a co-founder of My Sister’s Dress and served on the board of directors at Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County and the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA) Foundation.

In 2009, she was named NISRA’s Foundation Board Volunteer of the Year and was recognized as a Northwest Herald “Best Under 40” recipient in 2010.

“As a parent of a current student and future students in District 47, my motivation for joining the school board is to learn more about the school district while giving back to my community as a representative for district families,” said Smith.
