IL-06: Dr. Gordon “Jay” Kinzler Joining Congressional Race

Dr. Jay Kinzler at the Algonquin Founders’ Day Parade in July

Dr. Jay Kinzler’s Facebook page, and multiple sources, says he will run for the Republican nomination to the 6th congressional district, which includes Algonquin Township in McHenry County.

Dr. Kinzler ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2016 against then-Congressman Peter Roskam, garnering 31% of the primary vote. Last year, Dr. Kinzler was the Republican nominee for state representative in the 46th district in DuPage County, but lost the general election last year to 3-term State Representative Deb Conroy garnering 41% of the vote compared to Conroy’s 59%

Locally, the Dundee Township Republican Organization (DTRO) posted on Facebook with links for all 3 congressional candidates in the IL-06. McHenry County Blog sincerely thanks the DTRO for providing petition links to all 3 Republican candidates running in IL-06 on Thursday.

Dundee Township is divided between IL-06 and IL-08, with little over 1/2 of the township in IL-06.

Dr. Kinzler, Aug 2019

While Dr. Kinzler has announced his intention to run earlier this week in DuPage County at the Downers Grove Township Republican Organization on Monday and at the Milton Township Republican Organization on Wednesday, a formal announcement has not yet been issued/made. Additionally, no Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings have taken place for 2020 from Dr. Kinzler.

Four years ago, Dr. Kinzler, preparing to challenge Roskam in the 2016 primary, did not file with the FEC until October 1, which meant no FEC campaign disclosure reports would be filed until January.

For 2016, Dr. Kinzler raised a little under $203,000, little over half from loans from himself.

If the same schedule is repeated for his 2020 congressional bid, no campaign disclosures would be filed until January, but the 2016 numbers do give an indication of his fundraising ability.

Since Dr. Kinzler previously ran for Congress, he was required to file a Financial Disclosure Statement (FD), as required by the Ethics in Government Act. His 2016 filing is still available online, and can be accessed by the following link:

While the previous FD report is over 3 1/2 years old, Dr. Kinzler will need to file an updated FD for the 2020 campaign, and as previously cited here on McHenry County Blog, FD filings will be tracked and voters are encouraged to review all congressional candidates’ FDs.

Once a formal campaign kickoff announcement is made, McHenry County Blog will provide coverage.

IL-06: Dr. Gordon “Jay” Kinzler Joining Congressional Race — 6 Comments

  1. I won’t refer to anyone as “Doctor”, unless they write me a prescription for opioids.

  2. Take heed of this regarding high tax bankrupt states::

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn is reportedly planning to move his business – and his home – to Florida, one of seven US states with no personal income tax, to avoid New York taxes, according to Bloomberg.

The 83-year-old, who was born in the Far Rockaway neighborhood of Queens, has been a major figure on Wall Street for decades, and back in the 1990s, he bought a mansion on the Indian Creek island enclave in Biscayne Bay in Miami. Icahn expects all of his employees to make the move with him:

Those who don’t “won’t have a job”, according to several sources from within his firm.

  3. “Dr.” of what actually?

It doesn’t look like he’s a dentist, handing out those life-savers, unless he’s tryin’ to drum up new business.

  4. Kokomo, your question gave me flashbacks to the classic 1980s Ghostbusters question William Atherton’s character (EPA guy) asked Bill Murray’s character.

Dr. Kinzler is definitely a licensed MD.

  5. His card says “Practice limited to urology and renal transplantation.”

  6. Cal, so he’s a specialist, who is a urologist and endocrinologist, he’s still an MD.

And I’m sure in the Army Reserve, the colonel’s practice has had to go beyond his current specialties over the years.
