2nd Amendment Group Brings Up 2018 Carolyn Schofield Post

Something called “Illinois Watchdogs For Constitutional Rights” criticizes McHenry County Board member and candidate for State Representative Carolyn Schofield for her position on the Second Amendment

The group posts this from Schofield, which was published on McHenry County Blog on February 28, 2018.

The rest of the organization’s article uses a guilt by association argument.

It notes that Schofield is a member of the League of Women Voters and points to the leftwing views of that organization on guns.

2nd Amendment Group Brings Up 2018 Carolyn Schofield Post — 43 Comments

  1. Thank you for posting this Cal. The start of the first sentence said it all, “Something called ‘Illinois Watchdogs for Constitutional Rights’…”

I sure never heard of this group before, and after reading their website, I still am none-the-wiser on who these Illinois Watchdogs are.

If the group asking the question were a credible group with a long history and contact information, say the Illinois State Rifle Association, I’d give their criticism a level of credibility.

I’m wondering if that is the same group pushing the Schofield supported Hillary rumor that no one can offer any proof is true.

But no matter, let us remember over a year and a half has passed since the Schofield article from her Facebook post here on McHenry County Blog, and somewhere in that time, Illinois’ red flag law was passed, and maybe that group ought to ask why Skillicorn could not stop its passage.

But given the events in the past 2 months, and Gilroy, CA, El Paso, TX, Dayton, OH, and Odessa, TX, comes to mind, a real discussion of gun laws between Skillicorn and Schofield would be of great interest, and maybe the members of this Illinois Watchdog for Constitutional Rights can be present, too.

I’d like to know if members of that group live in the district.

The 66th is shaping up into a good campaign, and maybe a discussion of what a “reasonable restriction” to the 2nd amendment really is.

  2. As a bona fide member of the leadership of the Illinois Integrity fund I object to Mr. Lopez’s innuendo that secret groups can’t be outspoken and effective when pointing to the loser mentality of candidates like Carolyn.

After all we won for LyingJackFranks.

  3. No question about where Skillikorn stands on 2d Amendment issues, abortion, spending, pensions, etc.

I’ll stay with the proven quantity.

  4. Anybody who doesn’t clearly states “God bless guns” is not trustworthy and very suspicious. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock…

  5. It is clear what the 2nd is.

And clear (to me) that Carolyn has no idea.

    It is not about hunting.

In fact the AR-15 is legal for one type if hunting in Illinois, Coyote and only on private land.

Furthermore when hunting in illinois it is not legal to have a firearm with the ability to have over 3 rounds.

    The posssion of 5, 10 , 20 round magazines is a crime.

  6. I would tend to agree with the second sentence in Schofield’s post.

I would also point out that regardless of what either side says on the issue of the second amendment, it (the second amendment) was never about hunting.

It laid out the means by which a nation of free men could remain free from a tyrannical government.

    Is it necessary today?

    Hopefully, we’ll never know.

OTOH, with statementments made by some of our legislators (Julie Morrison, D-Deerfield) and wannabe’s like Beto O’Rourke, one has to consider that we may just find out.

    Common sense?

How about using the common sense talked about to enforce the laws that are already on the books against the criminals who violate the law rather than following the practice in such heavily regulated (by anti-gun laws) areas such as Chicago and Cook County and practicing “catch & release” with violent criminals largely based upon their economic status and/or race?

It’s true that citizens of the US are probably better armed than the military of many countries.

Of those many armed citizens only a small number create the headlines and the problems.

You can argue otherwise to your heart’s content but seriously, if the legitmate gun owner was the problem, you would certainly know it.

  7. Couldn’t imagine why someone would want to keep their guns.

Everyone knows there is a hard cap on tax rates, friendly governments are open and willing to share the information in the taxpayer funded computers, and the police and military can be everywhere all of the time.

The United States has a promise from the good man above that there will never be any reason for the common man to have some serious firepower in the next 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, + years.

Because we are so smart we can see into the future.

Utopia has been bestowed upon us forever and it is impossible for circumstances to materially change for the worse.

The currency will always hold its value, no possibility ever of serious deflation or inflation.

A major disaster such as we have never seen in modern man cannot happen.

No way can an event that supersedes 9/11 ever occur.

A massive biological, chemical, nuclear, or information disaster that causes mass chaos, intentional or not…won’t ever arrive.

Our transportation, water & sewer, healthcare, government, and food infrastructures will not ever suffer a major problem.

All we have to worry about is these losers who gun innocent people down.

And the monetary system once again, because good luck if that system crashes, just borrow and print more forever to fund lots of fun stuff.

All those systems are bullet proof because we are so smart.

  8. Ms. Schofield’s post is a fail.

Give Us A Break has it right.

  9. “The rest of the organization’s article uses a guilt by association argument.
It notes that Schofield is a member of the League of Women Voters and points to the leftwing views of that organization on guns.”

It’s a big clue as to who she rolls with. Irene Pritzker is a director (last page of tax documents)
    https://pdf.guidestar.org/PDF_Images/2017/361/256/2017-361256190-0f179125-ZO.pdf

And you know JB’s idea to allow Cook County jail detainees to vote? Well….

    https://www.chicagobusiness.com/government/chicagos-newest-polling-location-cook-county-jail

“Chicago Votes, a voter registration and education group, had been working with others like the League of Women Voters to register detainees at the Cook County Jail to vote since 2017. The groups said they had to fight the false perception among some detainees that they’d lost their right to vote.”

  10. Common sense? In this sunshine blog, that is too much to ask for. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meeeeeeoooooooowwwwwwwwwwww…

  11. Sunshine blogger, this is the perfect post to resurrect that tender picture of your filthy second amendment cat next to that beautiful shotgun. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock…

  12. As is in Chicago, If you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns.

Very bad to leave law abiding citizen as sitting ducks to the criminal element.

The criminal element also refers to some of our members of Govt!

  13. We need to get back to something here, and that is the content of Ms. Schofield’s 2018 post and the common sense she has shown, and not the tactic the Watchdogs used which Cal brought up, which is:

“The rest of the organization’s article uses a guilt by association argument.

“It notes that Schofield is a member of the League of Women Voters and points to the leftwing views of that organization on guns.”

When the Watchdogs did that, they did a classic 2+2=5 concerning the truth of Ms. Schofield’s stance on the 2nd amendment.

Schofield was very clear that she supports the 2nd amendment, she was only questioning the assault weapons components of what is currently a legal firearm.

She said nothing against hunting rifles, shotguns or handguns, let alone against the private ownership of such firearms.

So Lani Murphy’s statement about “outlaw guns” does not apply to Ms. Schofield because that is not what she is advocating in the 2018 post.

Let’s use a recent example from two weeks ago in the IL-14 race.

Candidate James Marter accused State Senators Jim Oberweis and Sue Rezin of embracing the sanctuary cities and Medicaid-funded abortions signed into law by then-Governor Rauner because they were not openly backing Jeanne Ives in last year’s gubernatorial primary.

Marter ignored the fact both Oberweis and Rezin voted AGAINST both pieces of legislation that Rauner signed-into law, which McHenry County Blog clearly showed with the actual voting record.

But Marter tried to draw Oberweis and Rezin as supporting sanctuary cities and Medicaid-funded abortions by a very loose association through not openly backing Rauner’s primary challenger last year.

Most of the readers upon discerning the truth saw through what Marter tried, and voters will see through it here on guns and where Ms. Schofield stands.

We’ll know how the voters stand come March 17 if the 2nd amendment becomes a major deciding issue in the 66th district race.

Here’s the link to the article referenced in this comment: http://mchenrycountyblog.com/2019/09/01/il-14-applying-discernment-to-james-marter-campaigns-facebook-meme-8-30-19

  14. Leave my Second Amendment alone.

I know what Germany did to it’s citizens after they turned in there guns, and they got killed, and that was in the Millions,so they I will say this to the left, go hunt in the lake.

  15. Connecting Schofield to the League of Women Voters is like connecting a Democrat to the abortion issue.

Insofar as comparing the Watchdogs to the Liar’s Front team is an insult to a group working to defend the second amendment.

Here is one item the group worked on: https://modernrifleman.net/2019/05/27/stem-shooting-vigil-organized-by-activist-teacher/

Credibility gets lost when a poster does exactly what he accuses another poster of doing.

Right now I want to know where the candidates stand not what some poster thinks the voters will do.

Hopefully we will see a few debates between Schofield and Skillicorn to set the record straight.

I mean real debates – not a controlled forum by the League of Control the Questions.

    Maybe Mr. Cohen could moderate?

  16. Its funny to me that a liberal with no interest in the 2nd Amendment wants common sense restrictions… B

ecause they’re such big fans of men putting restrictions on women’s rights, and of straight people putting restrictions on gay rights.

  17. The AR-15 is a great wild hog hunting firearm.

It’s also great for coyotes and other varmints.

Carolyn Schofield is as clueless about hunting as she is about firearms and the Second Amendment.

  18. John Lopez, where in the 2nd amendment is hunting (sport) mentioned?

Sorry, there is no “I support the second amendment, BUT…..”

You either do or you don’t.

And in Illinois, you can’t hunt with center fire rifles (which the AR15 is), so who needs them, am I right???????

  19. Guilt by association? Yeah..duh.

Just because sometimes guilt by association is a logical fallacy does not mean it is always the case.

If you belong to the Nazi party is it ok for people to assume the worst about you or is that guilt by association?

I swear, people get dumber by the second.

  20. “Assault weapons” are NOT a thing!!!!

It is a made up term the you moronic leftists use to demonize those firearms you don’t like…

All the while too stupid to realize that those weapons are used in less than 3% of all gun related homicides.

    Stupid!

  21. Support of the 2nd amendment is a support to respect people’s right to keep and bear arms.

It doesn’t include determining for them what form that should take.

Ms. Schofield has no business in determining what rifles an owner needs/should have.

She has no expertise, no point of reference on the subject.

She should only be making that determination for herself.

  22. Whenever one hears a liberal ask for “common sense” one should run, screaming hysterically.

Translation is, “there is NO logical reason, so please just trust me on this.”

  23. That is THE BEST post I have ever seen from Mark. (If you are actually the original Mark.) Although sarcasm doesn’t transfer well to comments sections, this is preferable to the deadpan posts of yesteryear. Congratulations sir, you are a human.

  24. Organize the forum for this open discussion between the candidates.

As long as the League of Women Voters is organizing they can set any rules to the forum they like.

Because no one takes personal responsibility for working, organizing, creating but leave all that to some other person nothing happens.

Create the forum with some credible moderator and reasonable sponsors(Farm Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Downtown CL Assoc….) and you’ll have a different style of debate.

  25. Support of the Constitution, all of it, is a support to respect people’s rights, period. Yes, even people who disagree with you.

And the Constitution includes “with reasonable restrictions” on all components.

It’s true about abortion and its true on guns and everything else we value dear in our great country.

I agree with Stan Hopper, I’m “Fed Up With Lies”, too, and the Light of Truth, the real Light, will shine on the 2nd amendment, too.

And yes, lies come from all sides of any issue, including the 2nd amendment, and by God, they will be exposed too.

And I do look forward to Mr. SteveTA1983, the author of iwd4cr joining us here on McHenry County Blog.

Surely the author of iwd4cr is someone of integrity who can represent themselves as well as the next person.

As far as the 66th district candidates and a “debate”, that is what the Republican primary campaign will be about including the 2nd amendment and other issues, too, between now and March 17.

I trust the voters to make the right call.

The voters won’t make the call on this, or any other race, in any debate/candidate forum, no matter who moderates it.

They’ll make the call with information they can read privately on their own to make up their own minds.

That is the way all elections work, and it will work here, too.

  26. Some of the people commenting on here are the reason your state is shackled with unconstitutional gun legislation already.

They present themselves as voices of reason and moderation which appeals to a crowd that perceives itself as more civil than average.

These people are NOT superior or more civil.

They are the seeds of destruction when they argue for taking away even the tiniest bit of your Constitutional rights!

Or allowing someone who will, to even be considered for election.
These people usually have some other agenda they are concerned with over and above your and their freedoms and rights.
They are unconcerned with gun rights because they are not gun owners.

Gun owners and 2A supporters have got to start recognizing that NOTHING is more important that maintaining their rights and freedoms…. NOTHING!

  27. I am not a women but I don’t understand why we need to have abortions.

When a women could use birth control if she’s gonna have sex she’s gotta know that she can get pregnant, and then we won’t be killing babys

  28. Of all the Amendments to the Constitution, only two reduced peoples rights.

Prohibition and the Income Tax and Prohibition was repealed.

  29. As a woman, and believer in the Constitution, I feel that Schofield is just using the women’s league to further her political career.

She doesn’t know what she’s speaking on and from questionings, she uses text book comments as her replies to deflect.

    And lets be real.

Abortion was NOT a fundamental RIGHT granted to us in the original context of the American Constitution- for the betterment of We The People.

Putting together the notion that one must not have the ability to defend themselves from harm vs. pushing the stance of extracting a fetus from a womb guarantees some sort of protection for a woman, is a horrible attempt at deciding which rights carry more weight for the American People.

    Especially those in McHenry County.

  30. I agree with Art Weaver. If I understand Mr. Weaver correctly, let me take this from his perspective:

Concerning how our state is shackled by people who claim to support the 2nd amendment but fail to stop anti-gun legislation from being passed. Take Allen Skillicorn, why didn’t he stop the red flag law from being passed last year? I’m sure a real champion of the Constitution would know how to overcome the odds, instead of hiding behind them, and voting against the legislation is not enough.

But this is the United States of America, and if someone isn’t getting the job done in public office, you replace them in the next election, and voters who feel Skillicorn has nothing to show for his convictions, voters can replace him, too. Now is Ms. Schofield like another state legislator who became known earlier this month, like Matt Schaefer of Texas (and while D J lives in Texas, State Representative Schaefer represents a district to the east of D J near Tyler)?

Let’s remember what Schaefer said on Twitter back on 8/31 in the wake of the mass shootings in Odessa, TX:

” ‘Do something!’ is the statement we keep hearing. As an elected official with a vote in Austin, let me tell you what I am NOT going to do. I am NOT going to use the evil acts of a handful of people to diminish the God-given rights of my fellow Texans. Period. None of these so-called gun-control solutions will work to stop a person with evil intent. I say NO to ‘red flag’ pre-crime laws. NO to universal background checks. NO to bans on AR-15s, or high capacity magazines. NO to mandatory gun buybacks. What can we do? YES to praying for victims. YES to praying for protection. YES to praying that God would transform the hearts of people with evil intent. YES to fathers not leaving their wives and children. YES to discipline in the homes. YES to supporting our public schools. YES to giving every law-abiding single mom the right to carry a handgun to protect her and her kids without permission from the state, and the same for all other law-abiding Texans of age. YES to your God-given, constitutionally protected rights. YES to God, and NO to more government intrusions.”

Now, apart from a vote in Austin and representing Texans, which of the 2 candidates in the 66th district Republican primary matches the purely #2A positions cited by Schaefer? I do not mean who comes the closest, but who matches him? I would say neither Skillicorn or Schofield do.

If Matt Schaefer’s pure #2A position is yours, I would say you better go recruit another candidate for the 66th.

Now putting my reasonable hat back on, please note, Schaefer is not the Texas legislator who was accused of threatening his fellow Texan Beto O’Rourke after last week’s presidential debate.

This discussion is long overdue. Thank you, in advance, for contributing positively.

That candidate’s forum moderated by someone other than LWV is looking more and more appealing.

  31. I saw Carolyn going into the McHenry Lane Bryant and asked her about Trump.

She said he was terrible and she’s glad she didn’t vote for him.

Then she tried to get me to sign her blasted food-stained petition.

    I signed it.

    To get away from her.

    I signed it Minnie Mouse.

  32. Ridiculous point made and many comments as well for the argument against firearms, these are the very same pple who can’t find a honest fact based argmt.

    Against the second amdmt.

Except exaggerated mis statemts no facts no proof but wrg opinion

  33. Anyone who uses the words “assault weapon” and “hunting” in reference to the 2nd Amendment obviously is clueless and will not defend the God given unrevokable natural right to keep and bear arms.

There have already been too many restrictions on the rights of gun owners.

The primary reasons for the 2nd Amendment is self defense and the preservation of freedom.

Self defense includes against a tyrannical government.

  34. Your right the 2nd amendment id’s not about hunting.

It’s about being able to defend yourself against a government that wants to do stuff like take your guns or kill your unborn kids.

  35. Since they want to play with the Constitution let’s change the third and make it you will not mess with my second.
