Oberweis Goes After Underwood on Impeachment

From 14th District Republican congressional hopeful State Senator Jim Oberweis:

Jim Oberweis: Rep. Lauren Underwood Can’t Have it Both Ways on Impeachment of President Trump

Sugar Grove, IL – Jim Oberweis says Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-14) needs to stop the double speak when it comes to her views on the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

In a tweet from late August, Underwood discussed the House impeachment investigation and stated that, “the Judiciary Committee is investigating whether to recommend Articles of Impeachment, essentially an impeachment inquiry. I support this investigation.”

Jim Oberweis

“Like her mentor Nancy Pelosi, Lauren Underwood is trying to have it both ways when it comes to impeachment,” Oberweis said.

“This ridiculous nonsense of supporting an impeachment ‘investigation’ is a cop out.

“If you support an impeachment ‘investigation,’ you support impeaching the President.

“She won’t come out and say this because she and Nancy Pelosi know the 14th District voters do not support the impeachment of the President.

“Underwood ran to be a new face with new ideas, but she is nothing more than a new face on the Nancy Pelosi business as usual politics we see every day in Washington D.C.”

Oberweis said it is time for people to put partisan politics aside and focus on the issues Americans care about instead of on an impeachment process that is not warranted and will not go anywhere.

“Not only is Lauren Underwood on Team Nancy Pelosi and on the wrong side of the impeachment question, but she is part of a growing number of extremist legislators who are focused on a harmful agenda that is dividing our nation and worse, ignores the problems facing American families.

“What is Lauren Underwood doing to address border security concerns?

“What is she doing to create more jobs in our district?

“What is she doing to bring more transparency and competition to healthcare?

These are the issues the people of the 14th District care about and instead our Representative is sending out tweets talking about impeaching the President.”

Oberweis Goes After Underwood on Impeachment — 44 Comments

  1. What in the world makes Oberweis think the people of this district are against impeachment?

I think anyone who doesn’t support an impeachment inquiry into this openly criminal “President” is an idiot, a die-hard Republican or both.

  2. Lauren Underwood continues to betray the people she is supposes to represent. Underwood, is not capable of doing her job!

  3. And, Joe Kvidera is an idiot and a die hard Democrat who supports Lauren Underwood!

  4. What is she doing to improve the lives of all hard working cow milkers in this congressional district? Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, mooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…

  5. Angel, don’t lower yourself to such condescending remarks. The hardworking honest farmers put food on your table. The farmers, believe or not, helped build this Country. The original farmers crossed the Ocean on ships so their families could have a better life in America. They make an honest living.

  6. Thanks for praising and honoring the great work and sacrifice of undocumented immigrants. Their hard work was instrumental and continues to be essential to build this country. These immigrants left their country so their families could have a better life in America. They make an honest living. Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meeeeeeoooooooowwwwwwwwwwww…

  7. Dala, why are you so nasty?

Is there some reason you find it necessary to insult and attack anyone who doesn’t agree with you?

Have you ever thought about devoting that energy to supporting your own viwws, attempting to explain exactly why you loathe Congresswoman Underwood instead of just making wild, unsupported attacks on her and anyone who dares disagree ?

  8. Supporting the investigation is good common sense.

If the result of the investigation merits impeachment, then proceed.

  9. Three years in and f’wits are still searching for a way to take Trump down.

Like the Conquistadors searching for the Lost City of Gold.

Actually, more like a five year old at a Chuck E Cheese Claw Machine.

  10. Trump was using our tax dollars – support for a country literally under attack from a foreign adversary – to try and falsely destroy his political opposition.

This is a betrayal of everything that the United States is supposed to stand for, everything we are supposed to be.

  11. “think anyone who doesn’t support an impeachment inquiry into this openly criminal “President” is an idiot, a die-hard Republican or both.”

Joe-did you not just use the word “idiot” above. WTF. Are you an idiot?

Joe you once told me you don’t say stupid things. That in and of itself proves you wrong.

  12. The Mueller investigation and numerous house investigations. All trying to take down the president and destroy political opposition.

  13. The house has spent three years trying to take down Trump instead of actually trying to do anything worth while.

  14. Stephen Pokorny –

What do you have to back up your opinion that the House isn’t trying to do anything worthwhile? 15. Bottom line – the administration is violating the law and obstructing justice by blocking the whistleblower complaint from getting turned over to Congress.

  16. Bottom line: The Deep State tried to engineer a coup against an elected President. Gues they decided that they just can’t off Trump like they did JFK after he announced the shelving of the Federal Reserve Banking Cartel Syndicate.

  17. The Inspector General has already determined that the whistleblower’s complaint is both “urgent” and “credible.” Those are the high legal standards that must be met. The standards have been met. The stonewalling and objection has to end and the law must be followed. Urgent. Credible.

  18. Also important to note that Trump isn’t even really denying the allegations. He’s saying it’s appropriate for him to bring up Biden with Ukraine after he decided to withhold money that Congress approved to go to Ukraine. What more do you people want?

  19. Trump went from “No Collusion!” to “Collusion…

    So What?”

Now it’s up to Congress to see if collision is an impeachable offense or not.

    That’s where we’re at.

Which side of history will Republicans choose?

  20. “There was no pressure put on them whatsoever. But there was pressure put on with respect to Joe Biden” – Actual Trump quote just now at the UN.

This guy just says words without any thought to what he’s saying.

  21. A commenter thinks that anyone who does not support an impeachment inquiry is an idiot or die-hard Republican. The commenter says that the “President” is openly criminal.

The real criminal acts were by Hillary Clinton for her various crimes related to setting up an illegal and unprotected server for her emails, holding onto them as a private citizen, and then destroying thousands of emails AFTER these were subpoened and also destroying associated physical electronics under subpoena.

More criminal acts were performed by Hillary and her Democratic campaign with regard to authorizing the phony Trump Dossier and having it used by high members of the Obama regime to spy on Americans in the Trump presidential campaign.

More criminal acts were performed by high members of the Obama regime (some of which worked in the early years of Trump presidency) including the investigating agency that created the “Insurance Policy” in the event that Trump won the presidency and then executed that Policy by instituting the Russia collusion hoax and the two-year investigation.

  22. So we can put Bred Winner down in the “Collusion… So What?” column.

  23. 1 Fonda 2 Go –

What makes you think that Trump’s own pick for Inspector General for the Intelligence Community is part of the deep state engineered coup?

  24. Trump admitted withholding funding for Ukraine that was authorized by Congress. Trump admitted he discussed getting dirt on Joe Biden with Ukraine’s president. Rudy admitted trying to get dirt on Joe Biden. Trump is blocking a whistleblower’s complaint from going to Congress, in clear violation of the law. This is an indefensible, impeachable abuse of power. Put every single elected Republican on record and let them try to defend this.

  25. Angel, there is a big difference between American farmers and illegal immigrants. The original settlers didn’t break the law when they came here. Further, creating a crisis where people come here illegally is not something one would call instrumental to building this Country. In fact, not only have they the broken the law, they have endangered all those involved in helping them return to their Countries of origin. As part of my College training, I personally witnessed an illegal immigrant walk into a center for food stamps while his brand new truck sat in the parking lot. He was working and accepting his paycheck under the table. That by the way is fraud. Another one, claimed he had 15 grandchildren as dependents and was also requesting food stamps. That particular person was under investigation for selling drugs as it was later confirmed and proven as fact. NEWS FLASH, that does not represent honest hard work. In fact, Angel, you wouldn’t know what honest hard work was if it hit you in the face. AHEAD ANGEL, LIVE IN YOUR IMAGINARY WORLD. HOPE THE SCENERY IS NICE!

  26. Go ahead support Lauren Underwood. It’s just a reflection of who you are. Go have some Girl Scout Cookies. Lauren has plenty!

  27. GO AHEAD, ANGEL, LIVE IN YOUR IMAGINARY WORLD.

    HOPE THE SCENERY IS NICE!

  28. We need a full investigation of dummy Joe Robinnette Biden and his interactions with the Ukraine. DID he use his clout as VP of U.S. to get his son a high paying job with an energy company in the Ukraine? Did his son have any qualifications, knowledge or expertise in energy? The answer coming back on this last question is NO. Joe Biden’s son had no qualifications.

Biden was the sidekick to the worst president of the U.S. of all time, Barack Hussein Obama. The president who had multiple scandals in his regime and who had made many boneheaded, reckless and lawless decisions. In his last year, this reckless president failed to inform Americans about Russia’s attempts to use social media to stir trouble on the election campaign. Then, members of his regime in high positions set up and executed an “Insurance Policy” to hound Trump in his first years in office and try to stage a coup.

  29. Bred Winner all of those dirty Democrats need to be investigated fully!

  30. Commenters such as “Oh on” are not aware of the Mueller report whereby NO indictments were brought regarding the matters of collusion and obstruction. There was no collusion or obstruction by Trump.

The only obstruction of justice in recent years was by thug Hillary Clinton who after being served subpoenas went and destroyed thousands of emails and destroyed related electronic devices.

This thug Hillary is also guilty of holding onto government documents as a private citizen. All of the emails should have been turned over to the government on her last day on the job as secretary in Jan 2013. The buffoon Comey outlined all of her crimes on national tv on July 5, 2016 and then illegally let her off the hook instead of referring her crimes to the Attorney General for prosecution.

  31. Mueller cleared Trump of collusion but not on obstruction. The report said Trump, as a sitting president, cannot be indicted. Mueller said it’s not fair to accuse someone of a crime if there is no means or process to also acquit that person. Therefore, he can’t accuse Trump of any crime. He said if Trump is going to be accused, it’s needs to be Congress who does that. Congress then can either acquit or convict. Mueller then went on to detail all the different ways and evidence that Congress could accuse Trump of obstruction.

  32. This is a good discussion, but I’m going to keep this on the Jim Oberweis statement against the impeachment inquiry itself.

    HE’S A MONTH LATE!

His Republican primary opponents, in this order, responded to Congresswoman Underwood’s August 20 decision: Ted Gradel, Sue Rezin and James Marter within a span of 24 hours once Underwood’s decision went public.

And let’s also remember Catalina Lauf’s candidacy was filed with the FEC within that 24 hours, too, but that timing is in my opinion a rare pure coincident. given she had already talked to the New York Post and that interview was published on the next day.

Kind of like the dated and stale poll Oberweis released to McHenry County Blog last week, this statement should have been made a month ago, or a lot sooner than September 23.

  33. John- your point is mute. When someone files has nothing to do with their abilities to work as a public official. Nice try though.
With that in mind, I haven’t decided on a candidate.

  34. DALA, first I was making sure there wasn’t another John who had commented prior to my comment. Seeing none, my point of Catalina Lauf’s timing for her filing had nothing to do with the abilities to work as a public official. My main point is the timeline of Underwood announcing her support for an impeachment inquiry on August 20 afternoon.

Leaving Lauf’s filing out, let’s look at what happened.

Within 24 hours, Ted Gradel, Sue Rezin and James Marter issued press releases reacting to the news, and all were published here on the blog on the 21st of August. The press release from Oberweis reads to me that it should have been filed around the same time as the other three candidates, not a month after-the-fact.

While I believe Oberweis believes what he says, it just seems like he’s responding to old news.

I would agree that if a real poll was taken, your position on whom to support would be consistent with “Undecided” and would be the most supported response in late September.

  35. Say Lopez. Keeping this discussion on the so-called “impeachment inquiry broadens out to everything the Democrats and members of the Obama administration were doing to destroy Trump before and then after the Nov 2016 election right up until today.

  36. Bred, Lopez-

Not a great morning to be a loud member of the anti-impeachment camp.

Going to be great to watch these IL-14 Republican candidates either distance themselves away from Trump or go down with the sinking ship.

Pelosi called his bluff and Trump was holding some sh*t a** cards.
