7.5 Years for Delivery of Heroin Containing Fentanyl to McHenry Man Who Died of Overdose

DERRICK J. BUTTRUM SENTENCED TO 7.5 YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS
DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that Derrick J. Buttrum, 30, of McHenry, Illinois, was found guilty of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, a Class 2 felony, following a negotiated plea before the Honorable Robert Wilbrandt.

On June 28, 2018, officers from the McHenry Police Department responded to the residence of Richie Hyde in McHenry, Illinois, for a report of a fatal drug overdose.

Medical and toxicological examination revealed that Richie Hyde died of a polysubstance overdose, including fentanyl.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Derrick Buttrum had delivered heroin containing fentanyl to Richie Hyde shortly before his death.

Buttrum was sentenced to an extended-term sentence of 7.5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections pursuant to the plea.

This case was investigated by members of the McHenry Police Department.

This case was prosecuted by Robert Ladd and Kyle Bruett of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
