IL-14: Jim Oberweis Endorsed by Lake County Right to Life PAC — 14 Comments

  1. Lake County “Life” group endorses guy who doesn’t want to ban abortion and who compared abortion ban to Taliban. lmao.

    https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2002-01-19-0201190041-story.html

“James D. Oberweis acknowledged Friday he is downplaying his opposition to a constitutional ban on abortion in appearances before Republican audiences to try to avoid criticism from his opponents in the three-way battle for the party’s U.S. Senate nomination.”

“When Oberweis announced his candidacy in November, he said he didn’t believe “bureaucrats in Washington belong in the decision-making process” on abortion rights.

But he said he has retooled his strategy as a result of getting “burned” prior to his candidacy announcement when he was criticized for noting that the Taliban symbolized “what can happen if we try to impose our religious beliefs on others.””

Something is wrong in Lake County. It may be the water. There was just a water boil order in Grasylake within the past week. Maybe it’s in the air with all that ETO pollution. Or it could be corruption, conflict of interest. Another kangaroo court like the Lake County GOP endorsement meeting? Regardless of what you think about abortion, why would a pro-life group endorse someone who is not the most pro-life candidate? It’s a primary. The point of the primary is to pick the best person. Why start at a compromised position?

  2. This for the man who compares pro-lifers to the Taliban.

Oberweis is less prolife than all the other candidates.

Oberweis seems to have bought the entire political establishment in Lake County.

It’s all the more stupid because a Oberweis has lost 14th District races twice already.

Six races for high office out of six race in total he has blown.

Does the Lake Co Right to Life org want Underwood re-elected?

Because their new fast friend Obie has proven time and time and time and time and time and time again he CANNOT won.

  3. Correcting and Sheila, I am not concerned about Oberweis’ terrible choice of words and comparison from nearly 18 years ago. That is the beauty of Christianity, is that we are not bound to our past, especially saying and doing things we regret. Think of the Apostle Paul what he did to the early church prior to the revelation on the road to Damascus.

Oberweis has been in the state senate since January of 2013, and I’m guessing that is the record the Lake County Life PAC took into consideration for endorsements.

All that said, it can be questioned given Oberweis’ track record running for higher office, the timing, barely a week and a half after the Lake County Republican Executive Committee endorsement, and the other candidates’ pro life credentials.

Please recall, back in mid July, Illinois Family Action’s David E. Smith wrote a scathing column against Sue Rezin, and Smith is a close political ally of Lake County Life PAC.

But when it comes to a primary, Oberweis is building his coalition of grassroots social conservatives, just like the other candidates. Oberweis has started in Lake County. Catalina Lauf is focusing on young people, A.B.A.T.E., and 2nd amendment proponents. The other candidates are doing similar things.

Rightly or wrongly, Lake County Life PAC has chosen Oberweis over the other 7. We’ve all seen races where there are multiple pro life candidates running in a primary, and all of the pro life groups support one candidate, in spite of the pro life records/stances of the others. Whether that will happen in the 14th with passionate right to life voters remains to be seen.

We’ll see how this plays out with the rank and file Republican primary voters, and if Oberweis can corner all of the pro life groups in the 14th.

  4. My point is that since they are a pro-life interest group, shouldn’t they endorse the most pro-life candidate?

Those two things I mentioned, his words and his political stance, are things he could take a hit for.

True, that was a long time ago, but the point is whether there are people who are more consistently pro-life than Oberweis.

Project Vote Smart lists ratings from Illinois Citizens for Life and Sue Rezin has a higher score than Oberweis.

The 2016 rating (which is the only available rating) has Rezin at 100 percent and Oberweis at 67 percent.

    https://justfacts.votesmart.org/candidate/evaluations/116675/sue-rezin

Given all this, what made the Lake County pro-life group pick Oberweis instead of one of the other seven candidates?

I see no explanation or even mention of this endorsement on their Facebook page or regular website.

  5. Agreed, the ratings are the metrics that should have been used by Lake County Life PAC.

If I’m not mistaken, those metrics are taken based solely on the record of both in Springfield, and given Rezin has been in Springfield for 2 years and a month longer than Oberweis, that is what the PAC should have used.

Given this information, maybe the other pro life groups will see these metrics.

    We’ll see.

  6. “That is the beauty of Christianity, is that we are not bound to our past, especially saying and doing things we regret”. Compassionate conservative, fake charlatan christian republikkklans, are you ready to join in the effort to support a Blago come back? Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meeeeeeeeoooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww…

  7. Zip it Angel, you paraded your friend Carlos Acosta around like a king.

Evidently, he is implicated in the death of a young boy due to his official negligence so your rantings carry no weight concerning the sanctity of life.

  8. There is no beauty to a religion that systemically sanctions and protects child predators and denies the legitimacy of other gods and beliefs.

  9. Heinrich please educate yourself on the difference between a religion and a religious organization.

No religion “systemically sanctions and protects child predators”

  10. Call it what you like Pokorny!

But there are a lot of priests out there who like young boys?

Read the PA attorney general’s report, there is no “beauty” in it.

When you understand why you dismiss other gods, you will understand why I reject yours.

  11. It’s not my god.

    I’m an agnostic.

    I reject most religious organizations.

you don’t even know the difference.

Educate yourself before you spout your hatred
