IL House 66th District: Allen Skillicorn vs. Carolyn Schofield Republican Primary

Allen Skillicorn

Contested Democratic Primary Between McHenry County Board Member Suzanne Ness and Carpentersville Trustee Jim Malone Puts 66th District At Risk for Flipping

Two-term incumbent State Representative Allen Skillicorn will need to fight to keep his seat in both the Republican primary, and if he wins renomination, in the general election.

This morning and as reported over the past three months, McHenry County Board Member Carolyn Schofield filed her petitions to challenge Skillicorn in the Republican primary.

There is also a contested primary among 66th district Democrats between McHenry County Board Member Suzanne Ness and Carpentersville Village Trustee Jim Malone.

All four candidates filed for the 66th district this morning in Springfield on the first day of filing. Here’s the lineup of challengers to Skillicorn:

Carolyn Schofield
Jim Malone
Suzanne Ness

The fact Skillicorn faces so many challengers should send him a message about his representation.

Also, the fact all three challengers are elected officials, two from McHenry County Board, one from Carpentersville, should also show him that these are NOT first time candidates coming after him.

This race will be interesting to watch as it unfolds, and both primaries have a McHenry County vs. Kane County configuration.

Over the weekend as reported in the Northwest Herald, Skillicorn challenged Schofield to a series of debates across the 66th district.

Saw that as odd, since he’s the 2-term incumbent and it is usually the challenger who should be the one wanting debates, not the incumbent.

As said above, the 66th district race, while not ranking as high as the congressional races in the 6th and the 14th district, will be interesting to watch.

IL House 66th District: Allen Skillicorn vs. Carolyn Schofield Republican Primary — 7 Comments

  1. Jim Malone is a Democrat Union tool!

He was appointed trustee in Carpentersville to the annoyance of many by Mayor Skillman, a Republican.

He is now credited for launching Malone politically.

  2. I’m sure Skillicorn figures that it’s to his advantage if Republican primary voters actually hear Schofield speak.

The way she tried to tap dance around her facebook post on semiautomatic rifles was painful to read.

In a debate, where she’ll have even less time to think of her answers, she’ll be a trainwreck.

  3. Carolyn Schofield is a Gottemoller/Franks protégé.

That’s reason enough to barf at her candidacy.

  4. I can attest that Jim Malone runs purely on his beliefs and positions on issues not as a puppet who is controlled by campaign donations.

He doesn’t own a business or have friends who will benefit financially from being elected like many others.

He is sick of politics as usual and the people being put last over special interests.

He is a regular working man trying to make a difference for the better.

He has no idea I’m writing this it’s just my pure belief in his cause.

I’ve worked with him in the past and been friends for many years and he embodies what politicians need to move towards.

Not a career of collecting money and making deals but sheer desire to make a difference and make Illinois better.

  5. If Carolyn feasts on Turkey Thanksgiving Day, she will be committing cannibalism.
