IL-06: Sean Casten Announces He Will Vote For Articles of Impeachment

Sean Casten

Casten’s full statement is below, transcribed from his thread of tweets sent just after 11AM Thursday:

“After reading, in full, the House Intelligence Report, House Judiciary Report, the Articles of Impeachment, and hearing from constituents, I have decided to take the solemn step to vote to impeach the President for abusing the powers of his office for his own personal gain.

“My career as a scientist and businessman has taught me that facts must be the basis for any decision. Those facts have led me to this decision.

“The facts are clear: President Trump withheld military aid to an ally, pressured a foreign government to interfere in our elections, and then systematically obstructed Congress’ ability to learn the truth of his actions.

“Impeaching the President was not a step I foresaw when I began my service as a Representative. But that service started with an oath to protect and defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

“The Constitution explicitly includes impeachment as a final check against those who would wield executive power in the services of ‘treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors’.

“When such excesses occur, it is not a choice to impeach; it is an obligation that flows from our oath of office. Donald Trump’s failure to obey his oath is precisely what compels us to obey ours.

“No matter the outcome of this process, I will continue to fight to ensure a better future for you and future generations to come, including combating the climate crisis, providing accessible health care to all, and ensuring a growing economy that benefits all Americans.

“Our founders gave us a Constitution and a country that have made us the envy of the world. Abraham Lincoln preserved that union.

“The wisdom, and bravery of those who have come before is a debt that is only repaid to the extent that we rise up to defend that Constitution they fought so hard to create. That is the oath we take as elected officials.

“May it be our collective oath as we move forward.”

The National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) Carly Atchison responded with a paraphrased quote parody of Casten:

“I have decided I would like to be a one-term representative.”

Thus far, no initial reaction from Republican candidates for the 6th Jeanne Ives or Dr. Jay Kinzler. As their campaigns respond to Casten’s decision, will post them as soon as received.

  1. I firmly believes this will be the guarantee of him losing reelection.

The perception of this weak impeachment outside of those in the progressive bubble is obvious.

Unfortunately for the progressives this will not be a long forgotten exercise.

Trump will pound them further and the media in their haste and hatred will once again assist.

This election will come down to a choice:

Full employment for US workers and 28% return for my 401k or Partisan Dems promising to reverse our kitchen table gains.

    Answer is obvious.

Too bad he was only a couple of terms away from becoming a millionaire.

    Tick tock! Tick Tock!

  2. Scoff all you want, but how many of you predicted as I did back when.

That the nerd in a Pee Wee Herman Suit, sporting the Dumb and Dumber look, would catch on with Illinois Voters.

  3. I’d rather have a functioning constitution than a booming stock market Especially since there’s no reason we can’t have both. (We did under Obama!)

  4. Regrettably, President ‘Keep you own Doctor’, couldn’t be reached for comment on all those ‘accomplishments’.

  5. The fight between good and evil has ramped up to a frenzy. The evil bastards will pull this off over the Christmas recess. That is precisely how we got the Federal Reserve.

  6. The failed Obama Administration was the longest period of low growth in American History. The Trump economy superseded his two terms in the first year.

The perjury before the FISA courts, Obamacare disaster, the Benghazi disaster, using the FBI and NSA to gather information for the Hillary campaign, and the Biden Family Extortion and Bribery scandal now unwinding will identify the Obama Administration as the most inept since Hoover.

    And the most crooked ever.

  7. You’ve cooked your reelection with that blunder Casten.

Horrible decision, backed up with whacky science. Pelosi yes boy. Sad.

  8. Congratulations Charles on the most outrageous series of lies I’ve ever seen posted here. It’s amazing how brainwashed the Trumpets are.

But it’s impossible to talk sense into them because to a Trumpet the only thing they believe is their orange god.

Why have we had to pump billions into our nation’s farms?

Why is Russia now the #1 exporter of agricultural products?

Why are more factories shutting down?

Why are almost 50% of all American jobs paying wages you can’t live on?

Why are health care costs and the number of uninsured both up?

What did you all think of Trump putting his head on a 16 year old girls body and throwing a tantrum (again) because he lost an award (again).

    Aren’t you embarrassed for him?

  9. Commenter at 2:54 PM alludes to Barak Hussein Obama who on at least two dozen times well documented national tv said if Americans liked their health care plans and doctors they could keep these. This was the biggest lie by any leader, US or otherwise, in the history of the world. Tens of millions of Americans LOST their heath care plans and/or doctors to Obama’s grand lie. Bottom line is this. Democrats, Obama or other, are liars and scoundrels. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever trust any Democrat, local, state or national. They are liars and scum very well proven by FACTS.

  10. Another comedy gem from Joe.

The answer to all of your questions is the fake Oblahblah administration set it in motion.

You can’t make this stuff up.

This guy is a royal hoot.

  11. Joey, at some future point you’ll be judged.

And the sentence will be horrendous.

    Better an earthly judge, too.

    Eternity is ‘for keeps.’

Do you and Casten share a bed? I mean figuratively, although literally might be accurate, too.

  12. Sometimes people are ‘eliminated’ like Epstein, bc they might bring down the house of cards.

Go as Steve Foster. Oooops…. I guess you can’t.

ex-DNC Chairman, Cabinet member became a ‘liability’

Deep State is finally being revealed a bit in Impeachment show trial …..

On April 3, 1996, Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and 34 others were killed when their Air Force Boeing 737 crashed into a mountainside in Croatia. One day after the crash, before any real investigation had begun, Defense Secretary William Perry told the Associated Press that the plane crash was “a classic sort of accident that good instrumentation should be able to prevent.”

The Air Force soon agreed and, in its ensuing investigation, determined that the tragic event was due to navigational error. Since that time, certain anomalies have come to light regarding the crash:

Ron Brown was found with a .45-inch inwardly beveling circular hole in the top of his head, which resembled a gunshot wound. Despite this suspicious wound, the Air Force medical examiners decided not to order an autopsy.

Normally in plane crash investigations there is a two step process.

The Air Force first determines whether the crash was the result of an accident, hostile fire, sabotage, or mechanical failure.

In Ron Brown’s case, this determination (called a safety board) was skipped.

Instead, the Air Force immediately proceeded to the second part of the investigation, where only accident and legal issues are considered.

speculate that the pilot may have been intentionally drawn off course and into the mountainside by a spurious beacon.

Three days after the the crash, Niko Jerkic — the man who was responsible for maintaining the airport’s navigational aids — died by gunshot.

    This was ruled a suicide.

Jerkic’s untimely death meant that investigators did not have a chance to question him.

  13. Imagine being so delusional that you think the Trump economy is bad.

    Kvidera, take your meds.
