GOP Write-Ins Possible for County Board in Districts 1 and 5

Only one candidate filed for the Republican Primary Election in both McHenry County Board Districts 1 and 5.

McHenry County Board district map

District 1 is the southeasternmost constituencies and District 5 runs from Woodstock south to the Kane County line, covering much of Huntley and Lake in the Hills.

Candidates can still be nominated via the write-in vote method by January 16th.

Prospects have to file a document with the County Clerk stating their intention to run as a write-in candidate.

Then, candidats must get at least the same number of write-in votes as they wouldhave had to have gotten valid signatures on a petition, had they gone that route.

In District 1 for Republicans, that number is 57.

In District 5 for Republicans, that number is 41.

Having seen the effort that former congressional hopeful Danny Malauf exerted, I can’t help but think that he would make a formidable candidate to take on Democrat Pauls Yensen in District 5.

GOP Write-Ins Possible for County Board in Districts 1 and 5 — 13 Comments

  1. GOP in McHenry Co. is a mismanaged, RINO dominated lot.

    They are toothless and useless.

  2. It’s time for Tom Wilbeck to step up and take the pledge.

    As a Republican.
Is there anyone out there that can confirm if any professed Republicans were in attendance at the Franks fundraiser in Crystal Lake at the Holiday Inn?

  3. “Vote for the Goof — Danny Malouf!”

A distracting pigeon placed to divert attention.

    Who put him up???

    Answer that!

  4. Cal, I think for District 1, you meant to say “…much of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills”, as there is very little of Huntley in Dist 1. The portions of Grafton Township in the district is Lake in the Hills, and a small part of Algonquin.

As to the write-in, the deadline to file a “Declaration of Intent to be a Write-in” candidate is mid January, I believe the 15th, so one cannot decide in mid February to be a write-in for anything, including precinct committeeperson.

I think back until the turn of the century, one could become a write-in up to 5 days before the election.

It was changed when early voting began, and early voting for this year’s primary begins February 6.

  5. Danny Malouf, yes, it would be interesting to see him apply his energies in McHenry County.

I get a feeling/sense he’s going to file as part of the Libertarian Party’s ticket as the 14th district nominee when the Libertarians file their new party submission next year.

  6. According to the candidates’ guide I found on the Clerk’s website:

    THURSDAY, JANUARY 16, 2020
    WRITE-IN CANDIDATES
Last day a person may file a notarized Declaration of Intent to be a write-in candidate with the
proper election authority or authorities (appropriate county clerk(s) and/or board(s) of election
commissioners). Write-in votes shall be counted only for persons who have filed the Declaration of
Intent. Write-in declarations are NOT filed with the State Board of Elections. [10 ILCS 5/7-59(b)]

I think it would be more likely that Melendy, Snarski, or Stanard would run as a write-in than Malouf.

Hey, maybe if Catalina gets kicked off the ballot she could do that!

  7. It’s time for Tom Wilbeck to step up and take the pledge.

    As a Republican.

Is there anyone out there that can confirm if any professed Republicans were in attendance at the Franks fundraiser in Crystal Lake at the Holiday Inn?

  8. Correcting, thank you for living up to your screen name.

    Ok, it’s January 16th.

Let’s not jump to conclusions on Catalina Lauf’s candidacy given the petition objection itself may get tossed.

  9. On second thought, Catalina probably lives in the 6th district.

    Same with Susan Handelsman.

  10. @Spectator

Judge Gerhardt went to Franks’ fundraiser.

He has a picture on his Facebook page with Jesse White that was taken there.

Scroll down to Oct 21 on his timeline.

  11. I don’t think flashy pants Malouf is a pigeon.

    But he is a widgeon!

  12. Wow Better to have no GOP if they’re RINOS!

Time for a new political party that represents taxpayers.
