Oberweis Pans Budget Bill

From State Senator Jim Oberweis, running for Congress in the 14th District:

Oberweis: Budget deal is bad public policy that will hurt working families

Sugar Grove, IL – Jim Oberweis, candidate for Congress in the 14th District, says it is time for Washington politicians to stop talking about balancing the budget and actually start doing it.

Below is Oberweis’ statement on the budget agreement:

Jim Oberweis

“The bipartisan omnibus spending bill is full of Christmas gifts for lobbyists and Washington insiders at the expense of taxpayers.

The $1.4 trillion spending plan represents 2,313 pages of pork spending the nation cannot afford.

It includes sweet-heart insider deals for corporations and fails to even address something as simple and worthwhile as expanding 529 College tuition savings plans, which has strong bipartisan support.

This budget deal was agreed to in the middle of the night.

Rank and file members had no idea what they were voting on when they approved the budget bills

The truth is probably no one has read the bill.

It is time to end the talk when it comes to balancing the federal budget.

We need a real budget process that is open and transparent – not something that is cobbled together in the middle of the night.

We need to end the Continuing Resolution process and make spending reform a real priority and not just an election year talking point.

I look forward to serving the people of the 14th District.

I have a strong record when it comes to fiscal responsibility.

I have been a vocal opponent to the budget process at the state level that has left our state nearly bankrupt.

One of the reasons I am running for Congress is because I do not want Illinois to become the model for the rest of country.

What is happening in Illinois should be a warning sign for what happens when you spend far more than you have.

We need to rein in spending and stop stealing from our children and grandchildren.

Generational theft is wrong, and had I been in Congress – I would have voted “No” on the omnibus budget deal.”

Oberweis Pans Budget Bill — 5 Comments

  1. He says he has a strong record on it.

I didn’t look at every year’s budget, but it appears he voted against the most recent one.

I’d like to hear from especially Marter and Lauf who regularly invoke Trump’s name.

Would they stand with Trump on a budget that adds to our national debt or would they say no to a reckless budget if it also meant saying no to Trump?

  2. Correcting, don’t have it handy, but around the time the Bipartisan Budget Agreement was passed by both houses of Congress and signed by President Trump, the House Freedom Caucus came out against the agreement.

The question was posed to Marter, the few times the Freedom Caucus and President Trump differ on an issue, which side would Marter vote?

He said back then in context of the Budget deal he would vote against it.

Lauf and the others like Rezin, Gradel Evans and Catella, would need to answer, too.

Hopefully, now that the first candidates forum is set, they will be asked up front and openly if they would vote for or against both the budget deal in the summer, and on the appropriations bills last week.
