Speeding, Illinois Marijuana Lead to Arrest of Indiana Man New Year’s Day

As I read my wife this story from WSTB-TV, she observed that people from Illinois go to Wisconsin to buy gas and people from out-of-state come to Illinois for pot.

The initial problem for 26-year old Hammond, Indiana, man, Michael L. Peavy was going 103 MPH in a 55 MPH zone nine miles into his state.

The smell of marijuana from his car was problem number two.

Then, the state trooper saw a black handgun at the man’s feet.

Disobeying the order to raise his hands, the driver tried to start his car.

That resulted in the policeman opening the car’s door and taking him into custody.

The result: charges of

  • Possession of handgun no permit with a prior conviction
  • Dealing marijuana
  • Possession marijuana with prior conviction and
  • Reckless driving.

The press release is here.

It observes, “Possession of marijuana is illegal in Indiana.  Marijuana purchased in neighboring states is a criminal offense to possess in Indiana.”

Speeding, Illinois Marijuana Lead to Arrest of Indiana Man New Year’s Day — 27 Comments

  1. Wow, 103 MPH and a handgun with a 50 round magazine at 1 AM.

    Not to mention the weed.

    Thank goodness he was stopped

  2. This young man, just may be the unluckiest human on the planet.

In 50 years I have never seen or ever even heard of a law enforcement sighting, on this Mad Max Fury Road hellscape section of Interstate.

Growing up we called it the ‘Gary 500’, for it’s speed and crashes.

  3. Guns are beautiful, aren’t they? Isn’t this an assault to our second amendment rights? Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock, meeeeeeoooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww…

  4. Fun Fact:

Frank Borman may have got is name on this stretch of pavement, but Chuck Yeager is the Mayor of Badassville.

  5. Fortunately another jurisdiction will be handling this. Kenneally wouldn’t win this case without a confession or plea bargain as he knows his legal skills couldn’t convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt with all of this evidence.

    Matlock he ain’t!

  6. Kind of like the old days when Richmond cops used to wait for Illinois kids coming back from Wisconsin

  7. Dear fallen Angel, if he was an illegal alien he would have been let go in our sanctuary state.

Prolly wouldn’t receive a ticket for no insurance either.

  8. I wonder what the MAD (Mothers against Drunk Drivers) will be calling themselves now when the pot drivers start killing..
    the innocent..

  9. I can see the Pot / drug dealers now, hey man I can offer you an ounce for less than the going rate of $800.00 how’s about treefifty..

  10. A lot of police departments are switching from .40 back to 9mm.

There’s a good chance that Glock 22 is a police trade in.

The used market is flooded with them right now.

I’m pretty sure the drum mag is a ghetto aftermarket add on.

  11. looks like he had more than a dispensary dispenses and they don’t use those containers, does he have another excuse?

  12. His name was Peavy and he was acting quite peevish at his traffic stop.

    He’s a grass-monkey.

Why wasn’t he tested for impaired driving.

  13. Have you been to all of the pot stores?

If not, how would you know about the containers?

  14. Gus, I think there is a limit on what you can by at one time.

Obviously, he had a large “stash” and a low IQ to be running >100 MPH with all the contraband.

  15. Paul, they did have a limit and I think the law said something about dispensary containers, not baggies Cal.

  16. ** Have you been to all of the pot stores?

If not, how would you know about the containers?**

    *Eyeroll*

Because dispensaries don’t sell their product in little baggies.

  17. If you have a photo of how their marijuana is packaged, please sent it to me.

  18. Alabama is right.

Dispensaries have to sell marijuana in child proof containers.

This guy has it in a bunch of little baggies.

It seems to me that he bought weed in Illinois and then tried to sell it himself in Indiana, which is pretty stupid if not just for being illegal but from a profit point of view…

Weed at Illinois dispensaries is currently as much or more than it is in the black market, and that’s before taxes!

btw, someone asked about the limit.

I believe it’s 30 grams of dry flower for Illinois residents and half of that for people out of state (so 15 grams).

  19. Google it Cal, as a matter of fact, Paul Revere sent a link to one of the dispensaries and they don’t have lunch baggies. The law is pretty clear about the dope being in the dispensary containers, they want their taxes and don’t want you buying it cheaper.

  20. Stated on radio No way to check pot heads who are high “yet” that is.

So they can kill you and get away with it, again a well thought out law… NOT!

by our infamous D.A. here in the toilet Fred Flinstone state, just get the tax $$ who cares about the innocent or any legalities…

we are all cannon fodder now if your driving on fib roads.

3 oz, I heard at a time was minimum and medical pot costs a bit less … but its all TAXED.

Again this guy could have made a killing selling cheaper and yet make more $$ than ever before with what the cost of legalized dope is.

    God help us all…

  21. **So they can kill you and get away with it, again a well thought out law…**

    Huh?

It was illegal to drive stoned before 1/1/20.

    It still is.

    Nothing has changed.

  22. Did he get legal advice from Mary McClellan?

    that would explain alot.
