Resignation of Carlos Acosta from McHenry County Board
This petition is asking for the immediate resignation/removal of Carlos Acosta from the McHenry County Board. Carlos Acosta was the DCFS “Advanced Child Protection Specialist” that was assigned to AJ Freund’s case in December 2018. Carlos Acosta is currently an elected board member representing district 5 on the McHenry County Board.
The Inspector General and DCFS officials conducted a thorough investigation/review of Carlos Acosta’s involvement (work) with AJ’s case.
The Inspector General noted warning signs were ignored in AJ’s case, warning signs that could have changed the trajectory of his fate. “Investigators ignored the parents’ long history of addiction, the mother’s recent relapse, and the parents’ isolation of the children from caring relatives and day care providers,” Paniak wrote.
As a result of the investigation Carlos Acosta has been terminated from DCFS.
Crystal Lake police took AJ and placed him in protective custody when they noticed a suspicious large area of bruising on his hip. When the police asked AJ’s mother how AJ got his bruises, she stated “she had no idea where it came from”. When Carlos Acosta arrived at the police station AJ’s mother then said that the family dog pawed him and AJ said the same.
Carlos Acosta, the DCFS “Advanced Child Protection Specialist” with more than 20 years experience, failed to consider that AJ’s mother originally told police she did not know how her 5 year old son got his injuries, and then later claimed the dog must have pawed him. Without further prior investigation Carlos Acosta the DCFS “Child Protection Specialist” ended protective custody of AJ, and released him back to his mother, back to his abuser. When he then, despite all the warning signs, simply advised AJ’s mother to take him to the doctor to have the bruise looked at.
While at the hospital AJ, in private, finally had the courage to use his voice and said to the doctor “Maybe someone hit me with a belt…Maybe Mommy didn’t mean to hurt me”.
Carlos Acosta did not accompany them to the doctor, did not have AJ evaluated or conduct a further investigation before ending protective custody and returning him to his Mother, his abuser. He spoke with the doctor on the phone who advised Carlos Acosta she could not determine how the bruising was caused, but she was concerned by AJ’s statement and recommended AJ be evaluated by a physician trained in child abuse. Carlos chose not to do this, despite both the police and the doctors concerns, that they did not believe the injury was consistent with being pawed by the dog.

They canned the Illinois secretary of Ag, so the dems are cutting losses.
I think the heat from the FEDS has changed their mindset.

As awful as most politicians are we don’t need an individual complicit in the murder of a child in any public office.
Acosta may reflect the highest of values to one commenter on this site but, to sane people, anyone complicit in harming or murdering children doesn’t reflect the values of a first world society.
Acosta will likely retain his leadership position in AFSME but they are free to keep or dispose of their leadership as they see fit.
Remove Acosta and Franks in the next election and McHenry County can start working on healing from their predations.
Does he really have to wait for more public outcry before he resigns on his own?

Yeah, but the Ag. Secretary isn’t elected by voters so it’s not an apples to apples comparison.
Acosta was elected so he can’t just be kicked out.
This issue has come up with PC including Nick Provenzano and Brian Sager, as well as the former mayor of Hebron.
Even if Franks asked Acosta to resign (which he should), there’s no way to get him off the board until 2022 when his term expires.
I don’t think Illinois has a recall vote mechanism either.
He is a Franks boy.

As Andrew Freund Sr. appeared in court Tuesday morning for a status hearing, news cameras were allowed for the first time ever at the McHenry County courthouse.

He got over 8100 votes, a petition worth a smit would need at least 9000 signatures.
No recall in Illinois.
How about a normal human feeling, Shame:
A painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior.
He has no shame, no remorse I don’t think even empathy.
He said “I did my job, and no less”
When your job title is “advanced Child Protection Specialist” and you had eyes and ears on a child who had significant bruising 🚩 indicating abuse, the mother said she had no idea how such a significant injury happened to her 5 year old son
🚩 then when you showed up she now has an explanation 🚩 said the dog pawed him, but the police say the injury isn’t consistent with that explanation
🚩 so you were not certain it was abuse at the time but you couldn’t rule it out either then in less than an hour you chose to end protective custody, returned the child to his mother
then later you were advised the child told the doctor when out of the presence of his mother likely abuser maybe someone hit me with a belt, maybe mommy didn’t mean to hurt me
🚩 then you find out the child was beaten to death by his mother.
Is it acceptable to say “I did my job and nothing less”.
I think all these red flags 🚩 indicate this “advanced child protection specialist” did far less than his job and a child paid the price of no less than months more of torture and pain and then heinously beaten to death!!
with all 🚩 red flags he should have done so much more.
Can he honestly say, would he tell AJ, hey kid I did my job and no less?????

If you have saved one child’s life by existing, pointing out the horror show DCFS is and pursuing murderers who have no remorse then you’ve done the community the greatest of services.
This culture war will be won in small steps taken by groups like ROAR.
Unfortunately it is likely more children will be tortured and die before society can rid itself of the Acosta’s who are grossly incompetent or worse, don’t care.
But the fight is worthy.
