Wife Killer Convicted of Murder

From the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office:

LORIN VOLBERDING FOUND GUILTY OF TWO COUNTS OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 74-year-old Lorin Volberding was found guilty of two counts of first degree murder on January 15, 2020, by the Honorable Judge Michael Coppedge.

On February 3, 2017, the defendant, Lorin Volberding, called his neighbor at approximately 12:30 pm and left a voicemail stating that he shot and killed his wife.

The neighbor called the Spring Grove Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to 10816 East Riveria Drive and, after a brief
stand-off, made entry into the home.

The police found Elizabeth Volberding’s body on the kitchen floor, deceased from a single gunshot wound.

Evidence at trial established that the defendant shot his wife during a domestic dispute.

The defendant will be sentenced on March 25, 2020, at 1:30 pm.

Under truth in sentencing guidelines, the defendant must serve 100 percent of any sentence and the mandatory minimum sentence for first degree murder committed with a firearm is 45 years in the Illinois Department of
Corrections.

This case was investigated by the Spring Grove Police Department with the assistance of the M.I.A.T. team and prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Combs and Michelle Clesceri.

    this guy could’ve easily swayed an “expert witness” and then a Judge that he was unfit for trial by insanity–

    no way, you guys proved otherwise, he knew what he was doing, he was drunk, in an argument, went for a firearm and explained to neighbors and cops what he did.

    He didnt slip away.

    And got amnesia about things when he had to sit in jail (as an ex cop) and play dumb.

    45 years minimum sentence.

    Will he get his dead retired officer wife pension while in prison?

    His and Hers Police Pension in Prison, he’ll live like a captive King.
