From McHenry County Board member Chuck Wheeler:

County Board Member Chuck Wheeler’s Member Comments 12/21/2020

Happy New year McHenry County residents!

I hope everyone is well rested after the holiday and ready for the new year as I am.

I had the pleasure of visiting Costa Rica with 200 of my close friends from the WIIL Rock station on the Cabin Fever Getaway!

What a great time!

90 degrees and sunny every day!

On a more serious note. I wanted to acknowledge the comments from ROAR for AJ who have repeatedly and diligently come to our meetings since the untimely and preventable death of AJ.

This is a serious incident that resulted in the loss of life of one of our most vulnerable citizens who deserved nothing more than our love, protection and affection.

I want you to know that none of us here on this board take lightly what happened to AJ and we all appreciate you speaking for the voiceless, it is a mission you have taken on and I commend you being a voice for the voiceless.

As to your request to the board seeking Mr. [Carlos] Acosta’s resignation I wanted to advise you that while I share your sentiments that Mr. Acosta should resign, our board has no mechanism to remove an elected official from office unless he or she is convicted of a felony or repeatedly, misses meetings unexcused.

It is left up to the good conscious of the official to do the right thing and to do the thing that is best for the office and his or her constituents.

It is up to that official to determine if his actions are a distraction to this body and the work that we do.

It is up to that official to come to grips with the reality of what they have done or not done and move forward from there.

Mr. Acosta, as your colleague and fellow board member I truly hope you come to grips with your own situation and consult with God, your family, and do the right thing for AJ, the people of our community, yourself, and the members of this board.

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, this concludes my remarks.

  1. No county board member is prevented from publicly asking Acosta to step down though.

    Why hasn’t that happened?

  2. Well I guess its time to make a rule ?

that does do this for crimes of this nature…

  3. Jack Franks is the one to ask Mr Acosta to resign and he should do it publicly.

But we all know Franks will never do it.

  4. More excuses for the inexcusable.

What sinecure government ‘job’ will malo hombre Acosta get now?

What about Acosta going to County Board meetings when he was supposedly working for DCFS?

Isn’t that a fit topic for investigation?

Let’s get the microscope out and really examine Senor Acosta.

  5. It’s bad optics for an elected official to brag about his foreign vacations.

Franks does it all the time on his social media too.

  6. ‘’200 close friends’ … and that’s just, apparently, from a radio station listening ‘family’; I assume he has more close friends who didn’t venture to Central America.

    So what is it?

    hyperbole?

    Fantasy?

    Delusion?

    Exaggeration (slight? wild?)

    Truth?

I always heard if you have more close friend than fingers you were really, really doing well.

Now I feel like a failure, thanks Chuck!

  7. He wasn’t bragging, just saying where he was.

    What’s wrong with that.

Pam Althoff is the braggart, and she takes several junkets and trips each year.

    And cruises.

    That’s what lobbyists do!
