IL-14: Lauren Underwood Must Lead and Convince Jack Franks to Resign

Congresswoman Lauren Underwood

Underwood must step up and convince her Democrat ally and elected county board chairman of largest county in her district to immediately do the right and honorable thing

Since late Friday night, we’ve all seen the headlines surrounding McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks (D, Marengo).

On McHenry County Blog alone, these articles published in past 24 hours:

The time has come for Congresswoman Lauren Underwood to lead, given her political alliance/ties with Franks, including her reelection announcement last June 30th in Woodstock:

Additionally, Franks worked with Underwood and other local Democratic leaders in the 14th district to attempt to pass Underwood’s legislation to raise the state and local tax (SALT) deductions limit on federal income taxes implemented as part of the Tax Cut & Jobs Act of 2017.

While her legislation died in committee, Franks is clearly not a passive ally of Underwood. She has used Franks to attempt to advance her congressional agenda.

McHenry County Blog published the article here in July:

Attending the Underwood reelection announcement on June 30th, I witnessed Franks had a prominent speaking role being one of many speakers introducing Underwood to the crowd that late morning at the Woodstock Opera House.

Underwood knows that with the onset of #MeToo back in late 2017, many men of both political parties have resigned their elected offices or fired from corporate America with a lot less than has been done surrounding the investigation of Franks which began within two weeks after Underwood’s election in 2018.

McHenry County Democatic Party Chair Kristina Zahorik

Hopefully, Underwood has already begun to influence Franks to do the right and honorable thing and resign his elected office immediately.

If Underwood is doing this behind the scenes, either directly or through a high-level McHenry County surrogate like Democratic Party Chair and State Central Committeeperson Kristina Zahorik, then being publicly silent on the Franks #MeToo scandal is appropriate at this moment.

But Underwood cannot stay silent for long, and Franks must be held to the higher standard precedent for elected officeholders set since September of 2017 and immediately resign from the office of county board chairman.

Franks will get his due process and have the chance to face his accuser, but he cannot be in elected public office given he’s significantly tainted.

There is way too much credible evidence as outlined in the many news articles already published since the scandal broke and was made public less than 24 hours ago.

And if Franks resists to resign as county board chairman immediately, all of the 14th congressional district will watch Underwood do what she must do, publicly with her constituent in this scandal.

The voters expect Lauren Underwood to be decisive.

The voters expect Lauren Underwood to lead.

  1. Hmmmm.

Let’s hope these allegations are pursued as vigorously as the ones against our president.

  2. Let’s keep the comments here to Lauren Underwood and Jack Franks, please.

  3. I want to hear from Democratic officials who live in the county to weigh in on a local concern before a federal lawmaker does.

That means I’m more interested in hearing from Zahorik, Vijuk, Ness, and others.

Good luck with any of that though.

Did Republicans ask Reick to resign?

Did Democrats ask Acosta to resign?

  4. Correcting, I understand your point about local officials prior to federal, and maybe at this minute, they are working behind the scenes to get Franks to resign which will convince Franks to do the right thing on his own volition.

But similar to what I said in article about Underwood, they cannot stay silent for long, and need to speak-out sooner than later.

I’d give them the weekend before the time comes when some/all need to speak out, and it does begin with the Democrat Party Chair Zahorik.

  5. – They will never see or do what is “Right” when they are happy doing the wrong things!

  6. I think I’ll start going to those Democrat gatherings.

Those crowds would make me feel like Brad Pitt.

  7. Jack: I really do speak for a majority who post on this site.

    Resign now!

Ask for forgiveness that you never gave any of your political enemies.

    Come clean on your behavior.

There would be no reason to serve a search warrant on Madigan’s office unless you were stupid enough to either text or email.

    Time will tell.

Was this what’s her names tic tock event?

  8. Former First Lady of President Clinton, Hillary, stated on Sept 4 2015:

“Today I want to send a message to every survivor of sexual assault. Don’t let anyone silence your voice. You have the right to be heard. You have the right to be believed and we’re with you.”

Of course two sides to every story. Let the facts come out.

  9. Wait a minute.

    Underpuppy do the right thing?

    Quit dreamin’!

She may double down and have him appointed to be co-chair of some Underpuppy fundraiser.

Check that, all her $$$ comes from outside the dist. and Soros fronts so really doesn’t need the Jack o’ spades.

  10. Correcting, when Vijuk heard tell of Franks’ fall he actually flipped his hairpiece!

  11. I’ve been dancing on this pole for free too long.

I think I’ll start selling Resistance T-Shirts to all these Obama Cultists and clean up!

  12. This happened before Franks took office, right?

So I assume Lopez is also asking for all Republicans to demand that Trump resigns, right?

And, FWIW, I do think that both Franks and Trump should resign.

  13. Franks has been an elected official since the 1990’s.

He retired from the legislature in 16 and immediately went for county board chairman.

If they’re looking through communications between Franks and other Democrats, and Franks is banned from the capitol without an aide, it sounds like the allegation would have been in regard to Franks’ time in Springfield as a legislator.

  14. There goes Alabama defending Franks. That’s what Lefties do!

Franks is a sickoid, wait till the reports come out. —at least one accuser is a ‘woman of color’

will Underwood then change her tune?

  15. There are dates after he became McHenry County Board Chairman.

  16. ** There goes Alabama defending Franks. That’s what Lefties do!**

I defended him…by saying he should resign?

    #ReadingComprehension

  17. But Alabama, neither Franks or Trump have been convicted of anything!

And Trump isn’t even accused of committing a crime!

  18. Uh…Trump as admitted been accused of committed many crimes.
