Crain’s Chicago Business: “Look for More Developments to Come” about Jack Franks

The political reporter for Crain’s Chicago Business, Greg Hinz, writes he “always had a decent relationship” with Jack Franks in a column in which he asks,

Jack Franks at Marengo parade two years ago showing a lot of weight loss.

“So if McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks was so dangerous he had to effectively be banned from the Capitol, why weren’t other officials and Franks’ constituents told?

Regardless of the reporter’s relationship with Franks, he couldn’t get through to him for a comment, but noted the McHenry County Board Chairman told the Sun-Times “he had done nothing improper.”

Hinz points out the problem arose in November, 2016, at which time Franks was still serving as State Representative. [This probably dates to the veto session of that year after his election as McHenry Countu Board Chairman.]

At that time, Mike Madigan’s office received a complaint involving an office staffer and Franks, resulting in Franks being told he could not visit the Capitol complex in Springfield and began an investigation.

The probe took until a year ago when Franks was told he could not visit the “Capitol comples without an escort” and contacted the Sangamon County State’s Attorney and the Legislative Inspective General.

But not until last week’s search warrant was uncovered by the Chicao Sun-Times did the public know anything might be amiss.

Hinz observes,

“…barring anyone from a public building without guard is an extraordinary step—especially when the individual involved is a public official who would have had legitimate reason to be in Springfield.”

His conclusion,

“Look for more developments to come.”
