Twenty Minute Fire in Crystal Lake Causes Estimated $80,000 Damage

From the Crystal Lake Fire Department:

STRUCTURE FIRE – 1542 Candlewood Drive

Crystal Lake, IL – At 5:11 pm [last night], the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire at 1542 Candlewood Drive in Crystal Lake, IL.

At 5:15 pm, the first arriving Crystal Lake Fire Rescue unit reported smoke coming from the roof.

Two occupants were home at the time of the fire. Both occupants escaped safely and called 911.

Fire crews discovered a fire on the second floor that had originated in a bedroom.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and began checking for any fire that extended into the attic.

The fire was declared under control in approximately 20 minutes after the arrival of the first fire unit.

There were no injuries to the occupants or firefighters.

Although the fire damage was contained to the area in and around the bedroom where the fire was discovered, the home did sustain smoke and water damage to a larger area of the home, leaving the home uninhabitable.

Damage is estimated at about $80,000 to the structure and contents.

The American Red Cross will be providing assistance to the family with shelter and other needs.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and is under investigation by Crystal Lake fire investigators at the time of this release.

McHenry Township, Algonquin/Lake in the Hills, and Huntley Fire Protection Districts assisted at the scene along with Crystal Lake Police.
