IL-14: Attack Ad Against Jim Oberweis by Independent Expenditure

Jim Oberweis

Illinois Conservatives PAC has struck, and in spite federal law prevents collusion with campaigns, there is a pattern

As several commenters have said yesterday and today, the Illinois Conservatives PAC independent expenditure (IE) ad is playing on Chicagoland broadcast TV. In case you haven’t seen it, here it is:

All are reminded, a PAC using IEs to send a political message, the PAC is prohibited by law to collude with any candidate, as the ad disclaimer says.

Those who’ve read articles here on McHenry County Blog can already anticipate what will be written by the blog, but let’s hear from you.

Please rate this ad in the comments. The PAC’s web address link is below, website has active links to all sources:

IL-14: Attack Ad Against Jim Oberweis by Independent Expenditure — 5 Comments

  1. Can anyone discern the slightest difference in design, wording and deceptiveness in mail and TV ads between Gradel’s own campaign and his New Prosperity PAC?

Yes super PACs are prohibited from colluding with any candidate.

But Gradel’s super PAC is funded by Gradel’s boss.

    So how separate is that?

This new super PAC may just be another variation.

  2. There’s a lot of anti-Oberweis money out there.

New Prosperity Foundation (NPF) has raised 200 thousand and Illinois Conservatives PAC has 710 thousand ready to use against Oberweis.

Some of NPF’s material is anti-Rezin as well, but all of the 710 is to be used against Oberweis.

Has anyone found out who funds Illinois Conservatives PAC?

  3. Correcting, nothing I have been able to confirm, let alone publish.

At some point, when Illinois Conservatives PAC must begin filing Form 3Xs, then we can learn some of who’s funding, but for all practical purposes, this is “dark money” until we can know who’s funding it.

Illinois Conservatives PAC was formed on March 2nd, which was after the 3 weeks threshold to file a Pre-Primary report, which the New Prosperity Foundation did file, which was accessed for this article.

Am keeping an eye on both, or any other IE group that may form in the final week of the primary campaign.

Between New Prosperity’s & Illinois Conservatives PAC nearly $900K of independent expenditures (IEs) spend against Oberweis, it’s a lot.

But as I said closing the article, what has been spent by these two sets of IEs is nothing compared to what the Republican nominee will face, possibly as soon as March 18, in the general election campaign when IEs will go into the millions of dollars range.
