IL-14: Discernment on Anti-Sue Rezin Mailers

Ted Gradel’s hit piece nothing more than verbal “smash and grab”

Back on June 12, when I was posting comments on McHenry County Blog under the pseudonym “Former Quigley Supporter”, I was vocally critical of then 6th congressional district candidate Evelyn Sanguinetti for issuing a release critical of Congressman Sean Casten that took about 16 seconds out of a 3 1/2 minute response to a question, and twisted the message.

Brief excerpt of what I said:

…and Sanguinetti isn’t interested in the Truth

“Evelyn Sanguinetti’s press release here is so insulting to the voters because it doesn’t tell the truth…Snatching 16 seconds from an interview Sean Casten had…late last month and deliberately distort what Casten actually said is completely dishonest on Sanguinetti’s part.”

John Lopez, as “Former Quigley Supporter” blog comment 6/12/19
.

The same could be said of the attack mailing received in the past week against State Senator Sue Rezin from the campaign of Ted Gradel.

The only difference from the Sanguinetti press release of 9 months ago is the source type. Last June, it was a video, which Sanguinetti’s campaign took 16 seconds of a 3 1/2 minutes response.

With Gradel, it was both video and print media.

One side of the Ted Gradel example is below:

“I don’t agree with the President”

Cute how a picture of Hillary Clinton is placed on both sides of the mailer, without ever referencing the 2016 Democratic nominee except by inference.

McHenry County Blog believes in full context, so here is the full quote of State Senator Sue Rezin with people who have concerns of the President’s use of social media, with emphasis added on what was snatched, compared with full context of what Rezin said, transcribed from NBC 5 video:

“They have some reservations when he’s tweeting, when he’s speaking, I understand that. I don’t agree with the President on everything but when the economy is doing better, people are working and they feel better about themselves.”

Sue Rezin, response to NBC 5 6/18/19

Sue Rezin opposed Trump for President!

A half-truth, the floating picture of Hillary Clinton, and an intentional typo on the reference note.

Citing a February 2016 Shaw Media article with a typo in the reference date after President Trump is in office in 2017, Rezin, like rivals Jim Oberweis and James Marter, backed one of the other candidates during the presidential primaries of 2016. Just as Oberweis backed Senator Marco Rubio and Marter backed Senator Ted Cruz, Rezin backed former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

The floating Hillary Clinton picture attempts to infer Rezin backed her during the general election, which is the lie side of the half-truth of whom Rezin backed during 2016.

And that typo, interesting how Ted Gradel’s web site has it too. Looks intentional to this discerning voter.

Liberal Sue Rezin votes to hike taxes

The mailer cites a procedural vote at the committee level on a tax that never made it to the senate floor, let alone became law. That procedural vote was unanimous.

The June 2 Capital Bill vote is cited, and Rezin always owns what she does, including votes others do not agree with and normally, while one may not agree with Rezin, people will understand where she comes from.

Sue Rezin doesn’t think Trump is a leader

“I do not speak the way the President does and do not like the tone.”

Another verbal smash and grab, this time Rezin’s response to the candidates’ questionnaire from the Daily Herald, which endorsed Rezin last month. The questionnaire response was published on February 14.

More full context is in order.

First the 3-part question, then Rezin’s response, with the quote Gradel used highlighted, and let the reader decide what Rezin really thinks about President Trump:

1. What have the past three years of Donald Trump’s unconventional leadership taught us about politics in the United States? What is the best thing his presidency has done? What is the most significant criticism you have of it?

“That more incentives to work, save, invest, take entrepreneurial risks, start and expand businesses through lower income tax incentives work to create economic growth.

“People who have 401(k)s and mutual funds have benefited enormously from the steady rise in the stock market but so too have working people with pension plans because the investment value of stocks held by those pension funds have also steadily risen, strengthening pensions tremendously.

“President Trump’s out-of-the-box leadership has brought benefits to the American people from international trade. The president confronted head-on the unfairness by China in particular, and the President alone wanted to renegotiate NAFTA. Early on, many congressional leaders belittled President Trump’s insistence on renegotiating NAFTA. With USMCA, the Phase One trade deal with China and a new trade deal with Japan, our nation is poised for even more economic growth. I now look forward to our speedy negotiations for a big trade deal with the United Kingdom.

“The President’s insistence on NATO allies boosting their military spending to levels they all agreed to in 2014 has also paid off with tens of billions more in spending on the NATO alliance. Multilateralism does not work if nations sign international agreements with no intention to living up to what they signed.

I do not speak the way the President does and do not like the tone.

Sue Rezin, candidate questionnaire response to question #1, published 2/14/20 Daily Herald
.

And concerning Mike Madigan allies, nearly anyone who has done business with the state of Illinois over the past 50 years is seen as a “Mike Madigan ally” including ComEd/Exelon. Rezin’s district has significant number of ComEd employees, and anything threatening ComEd jobs threatens constitudents’ lives.

No reason to look at New Prosperity’s mailer comments about Rezin, because their attacks are similar. They bring up disgraced Madigan associate Mike McClain, and like he had done with Oberweis, McLain donated to Rezin’s state senate campaign three times from 2012 through 2016, and for a total of less than $1,000.

Hopefully, voters are much more discerning on these kinds of verbal smash and grab mailings, and if McHenry County Blog has helped with the discernment, then thank God for His guidance.

IL-14: Discernment on Anti-Sue Rezin Mailers — 6 Comments

  1. This whole article is nothing but sauce for the goose.

The truth is she voted to double the gas tax and she voted for the ERA and that’s all we need to know.

  2. Gradel’s campaign is as shady as his medical practice was that President Trump’s Justice Department sued last year to shut Gradel down.

  3. I replied to one of Ted Gradel’s emails to tell him his campaign flies bring a new low to political campaigning and that he is a disgrace to the Republican party.

  4. C’mom, Rezin IS an ERA voting, Gas tax Hiking RINO who doesn’t even live in the district she’s running to represent.

    Carpet bagger and bag taxer!

Has Rezin ever voted against an opportunity to be a money grabber?

  5. Gradel’s attacks on Oberweis and Rezin have been dirty, misleading, simplistic, hamhanded.

Just like the Rauner mailers against Jeanne Ives.

Of course the same consultant produced/appproved all pieces- Chip Englander.

The real, verified news story is Gradel’s crooked company that was closed down by the FDA.

And if he was just a “passive investor” why was he personally banned by the Judge from ever practicing biologics again?

And why did the state of Florida paperwork list him as Managing Partner?

  6. I would vote for Gradel over Rezin,

But I’m voting MARTER over Gradel!
