NWH Endorses Carolyn Schofield for State Representative in the GOP Primary

Here is the endorsement:

State Representative, 66th District (Republican): Carolyn Schofield

Carolyn Schofield is the best choice for Republican voters in Illinois’ 66th legislative district.

Schofield, of Crystal Lake, has served in government both at the city and county level, as well as on regional planning agencies overseeing transportation, groundwater management, and flood control. She is attuned to the infrastructure and natural resource needs of the district and will provide sound judgment in these areas, which may be less polarizing but are critical to good governance.

Schofield is a past Crystal Lake City Council member and current McHenry County Board member. She will support Second Amendment rights, look for ways to reduce property taxes through school district consolidation and other avenues, and support measures aimed at keeping helping Illinois businesses grow.

Importantly, she will take a more moderate approach that should allow her to work effectively with both Republicans and Democrats in Springfield. Republicans are the minority in the legislature, and Republicans who can not work effectively across the aisle will make little progress.

This is the second time Schofield has challenged incumbent Rep. Allen Skillicorn of East Dundee. Skillicorn is a firebrand whose social media activity reminds us a lot of Donald Trump. He and Schofield stake out similar positions on many issues, but Skillicorn’s approach may be better suited to an activist than a politician.

We also are concerned that Skillicorn somehow voted on 23 bills in the legislature while he attended the Harvard Milk Days parade in June 2019. That event occurs outside the 66th District, which includes parts of Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Huntley, Lake in the Hills and Lakewood, along with parts of northern Kane County.

Schofield is endorsed.
