IL-14: Dark Money to Support Catalina Lauf According to Late Friday FEC Filing

While at the same time, opposing Jim Oberweis, Sue Rezin and Ted Gradel in final mailing on the last weekend before primary

It’s not a great deal of money, compared with the over $710K of the Illinois Conservatives PAC for TV/radio spots or the more modest nearly $200K of the New Prosperity Foundation.

But the Independent Expenditure (IE) submitted after hours on Friday has a final direct mail push to support Catalina Lauf while opposing her fellow National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) “Young Guns”:

Per this tweet from the California Target Book Twitter bot:

The nearly $14,000 for the Our Future, Our Fight PAC is enough for a direct mailing to the hard “R”s within the 14th congressional district.

Per the IE itself, Axiom Strategies will send the direct mailing through payment through the Our Future, Our Fight PAC.

The PAC itself was not formed until the end of 2019, and its year-end report showed the PAC to be completely unfunded.

That changed, and the nearly $14K mailing will hit the street Saturday, if it hasn’t already.

In addition to the dark money filing from above, here is the latest financials for the 14th congressional district, with candidate receipts, loans, and IE expenditures since February 26.

A new column is added, since the IE filed Friday will also support Lauf’s campaign, while opposing Oberweis, Rezin and Gradel.

The $13,809 amount of the IE is split among the 4 candidates, with 50% amount entered to support Lauf, while the remaining 50% will be split evently among the three candidates candidates in opposition:

Highlights include:

  • Catalina Lauf
    • $6,904.50 in new IE Support column from Our Future, Our Fight PAC
    • $9,000 IE Opposition (New Prosperity Foundation mailing)
  • Ted Gradel $2,301.50 portion of Our Future, Our Fight PAC opposition
  • Jim Oberweis
    • $5,600 individual contributions
    • $9,000 IE Opposition (New Prosperity Foundation mailing)
    • $2,301.50 portion of Our Future, Our Fight PAC opposition added to IE Opposition total
  • Sue Rezin
    • $9,000 IE Opposition (New Prosperity Foundation mailing)
    • $2,301.50 portion of Our Future, Our Fight PAC opposition added to IE Opposition total

As soon as a recipient of the Our Future, Our Fight PAC mailing has it delivered to their residence, please scan both sides of the mailing and email it to either Cal Skinner or me.

IL-14: Dark Money to Support Catalina Lauf According to Late Friday FEC Filing — 11 Comments

  1. The ongoing and daily mailers from the candidates, which have to be very expensive, have gone straight to the garbage can in the last week. Too much.

  2. Doesn’t she frequently use #OurFutureOurFight in her tweets?

Sounds like an FEC violation to me…

  3. The 3 that have been mailing mud are turning off people.

Catalina Lauf has run a clean campaign and is gain in support.

So now she is a threat.

The milkman and the other 2 career politicians are scared so now they have to do mud slinging Catalina.

She is the future of our party, She is smart and follows our party platform.

She is against socialism and in favor of the walls to protect our country.

We need to wake up and start getting new blood going in the republican party…or just sit back and have the democrats run or ruin things..

  4. Not sure how they prove coordination, but a good catch on your part and looks like coordination, WatchDog.

She likely got that slogan from Bruce Rauner in the first place. He used to say, “Our Fight, Our Future.” She says, “Our Future, Our Fight.”

  5. Mark S, baloney that Catalina Lauf has run a clean let alone good campaign, though to some degree, she has gained support. Will it be enough to win we’ll find out Tuesday night.

And according to Lauf, the 3 career politicians in the field are Jim Oberweis, Sue Rezin and James Marter.

Lauf has shown herself to be gaffe prone, including 1) Batavia debate and ERA question, 2) MCC debate and nuclear power/warfare response, 3) Jeff Berkowitz interview and completely misstating Lauren Underwood’s position on Israel compared to the record.

And, Lauf has never come clean about her time in Citizens for Rauner and the contradiction of how such an always-Trumper she portrays herself to be can work for 10 months, including against Jeanne Ives’ primary challenge 2 years ago, to help try to reelect the most never-Trumper governor in the nation, and in only two instances (Mark Konkol interview last October, Bolingbrook debate last month) she’s discussed it, and those were brief mentions.

Apart from Gradel and his allies at New Prosperity dark money PAC, no major campaign (Oberweis, Rezin) had taken shots at Lauf with good cash money until this weekend.

Thus far, the only attacks I have confirmed that have been taken on Lauf are from the Ted Gradel allies at New Prosperity Foundation in a robocall and a mailer. Jim Oberweis’ voter guide mailing hit the street, and his comparison piece against Catalina Lauf and his own record are in need for discernment, which will take place in a separate article.

James Marter has hurled attacks and innuendo against Lauf, but all of us know he’s nowhere close to winning.

Jerry Evans voiced concern about “the other millennial”, but something I would not call mudslinging.

And Anthony Catella cannot afford to do anything.

Frankly only Catella and Sue Rezin have done no attacks against Lauf. Her last mailer only points out Oberweis and Gradel, and Lauf has not been added to the Opponents page on the Rezin campaign website as Oberweis and Gradel are. And Rezin’s campaign confirmed they did not do any robocalls attacks against Lauf.

And then, Correcting tells us Lauf took a Rauner slogan from two years ago, switched positions of two words, and has recycled a Rauner campaign phrase into her own.

Yes, Lauf is the future of our party, though I disagree she follows the party platform — she has no record to verify, just that she will do it if given the chance, and who isn’t against socialism and for walls.

Yes, the future, and new blood is needed, but is the future now? Republican primary voters choice will determine that on Tuesday night.

  6. I have seen Catalina talk several times and she has said she will go after aoc and her buddies to fight socialism and she has mentioned support for the wall to.

Also fight to get federal money to help local veteran groups.

Just because you were NOT there and I WAS…

Also you are worried she change a campaign phrase from Rauner?

SO WHAT. candidates have done this for years, from Lincoln to Bush SO WHAT???

    Yes the future is NOW.

The county Republicans and state are getting older and we work with the younger candidates and voters them bring them into our Party.

For the last 6 years or more Bernie has been attracting younger voters, The Republican Party needs to start working harder to bring in these voters, or madigain will stay in power for ever.

  7. Mark S., nice try at deflecting, but it does not avail you, or Lauf.

No defense of Lauf being gaffe prone.

Still unconvinced now is the time for Lauf. If you read the Oberweis mailer article, you’ll know I confirmed her stance on the wall.

I have heard the vague veterans reference before. It was supposed to be part of her platform “launch” that she never did, let alone placed on her website.

One of many reasons confirming my belief now is not the time for Lauf.

Come Tuesday night, we’ll see if Primary voters agree with you, or agree on someone else.

  8. Based on 4×4 yard signs, LOTS of Marter support in rural (Western) parts of the county.

Maybe not enough, but who knows?

NO support for milkman out here.

  9. Does Alec Stone get money from Catalina Lauf’s campaign or is he just a volunteer?

  10. Correcting, took a quick look at Lauf’s Schedule B for her year-end and pre-primary FEC reports.

If Mr. Stone is on the payroll, it’s not as an employee of the campaign, but through a consulting firm.

Sounds like he is a volunteer.
