McHenry County Early Voting Sunday ’til 3, Monday 9-7 — 4 Comments

  1. Lights put people:

Gov. Pritzker closes restaurants and bars starting Monday night.

  2. Of interest:

With Wall Street desperate for the Fed to announce emergency measures on Sunday (after disappointing last week), and ideally before the futures open, Jerome Powell did not disappoint and moments ago the Fed announced a barrage of emergency measures which included:

Welcome back ZIRP: Fed cuts rates by 100bps to 0-25bps from 1.00 -1.25bps.

Fed officially launches QE5 (no more “Non-QE” bullshit), consisting of “at least” $500BN in Treasury purchases and $200 billion in MBS.

Boosting intraday liquidity: The Fed announces Measures related to the discount window, intraday credit, bank capital and liquidity buffers, reserve requirements, and—in coordination with other central banks—the U.S. dollar liquidity swap line arrangements

Reserve requirements cut to zero: The Fed cuts reserve requirement ratios to zero percent effective on March 26.
Coordinated swap lines: The Bank of Canada, the Bank of England, the Bank of Japan, the European Central Bank, the Federal Reserve, and the Swiss National Bank announced a coordinated action to enhance the provision of liquidity via the standing U.S. dollar liquidity swap line arrangements. The pricing on the dollar liquidity swap arrangements is cut by 25 basis points, so the new rate will be the US dollar overnight index swap (OIS) rate plus 25 basis points.

  3. Bars, restaurants, libraries, government meetings are shutting down.

    Court cases are being postponed.

Why are the polls still open?

At least ten percent of the election judges have quit in Cook County.

That’s just those who have REPORTED and those numbers are old.

There will be many no call no shows tomorrow.

There may be last minute poll cancellations too where the entire polling location is shut down.

Many of these locations are private and the owner can just tell the clerk to pound sand.

Hundreds of people will go in and out of that place touching the same screens or pens.

Many voters and election judges are old; young ones can be carriers and not know it then spread to others.

There is no vaccine yet and it is more serious than regular flu.

Why are we doing an election when we are cancelling everything else?

It’s irresponsible from a health perspective and from an election logistics standpoint, you’re likely to see a disaster that will make the Iowa caucus look like a hiccup.

There are already problems finding enough judges from BOTH parties in certain areas — coronavirus will only make that worse.

Can we assure our elections are safe from fraud?

    The election should be postponed.

If they’re smart enough to do it in Georgia and Louisiana, I think we can figure it out with Illinois’ highly educated people.

I get the impression Pritzker doesn’t want to shut down the polls because it would be inconvenient.

I can think of more severe inconveniences that will likely result from leaving the polls open.

His decision to leave polls open is dangerous and inconsistent with his other emergency orders.

Either postpone the election or don’t complain when SHTF tomorrow.
