Jerry Evans (r)

Calls out Jim Oberweis, Ted Gradel, Catalina Lauf and Sue Rezin for “stretching the truth” and other candid observations

Earlier today, 14th congressional district candidate Jerry Evans was interviewed by phone on The Michael Koolidge Show to discuss the Republican primary.

Evans did not hold back discussing the four National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) “Young Guns” candidates in tomorrow’s primary.

The audio for the interview is nearly 10 minutes long:

IL-14: Jerry Evans Makes Final Appeal to Voters — 11 Comments

  1. Sanctimonious Evans stretched the truth in his across-the-board criticisms of his opponents. Some of his facts are wrong and he merely accepted another opponent’s wording.

Evans keeps sayin we should do better (than his opponents).

Well, on a conservative FB page i just saw a listing of four double maximum icontributions Jerry Evans received. That’s maximum donations for each the primary and general elections. It’s standard practice to accept general election contributions during the primary BUT BUT BUT it is illegal to spend a dime of general election contributions collected DURING the primary. It appears Jerry Evans spent every penny of those general elections funds already according to that Facebook account.

Know-it-all, holier- than-thou Jerry Evans might want to research the laws before he runs for office. Might also be wise to actually have a plan capable of winning before getting himself on the ballot, but that’s a separate issue. Now Evans will have fines from the FEC. No one filed a complaint against him—the FEC software will discover that on its own. It always does.

  2. Sentinel,

I saw that FB page, and that is something I will follow-up after today.

That said, the FB post had inaccuracies of its own, compared with the actual FEC filing from Evans’ campaign.

As far as the “…actually have a plan capable of winning before getting himself on the ballot…”, that can be said of over half the candidates in this 14th district primary race which will end today.

  3. Why does he support illegal aliens….. as long as they support him?

  4. Gibbert, I don’t recall his support of illegal aliens.

    Frankly, it doesn’t matter now.

The primary campaign is over, all that’s left is GOTV, the actual voting and counting returns.

  5. If Evans accepted general election contributions from four individuala (which is permitted under the rules), Evans is legally obligated to refund those general election contributions in full if he loses the primary.

If that FB post is correct.

that means Evans will need to refund $11,200 if he doesn’t win.

But it seems he spent it all.

If so, he probably will he required to personally refund those contributions, in addition to the FEC fine.

  6. Sentinel, you are right about the FEC rules.

When one says Evans “…seems he spent it all.”, that is the inaccuracy of the FB post compared with the FEC Pre-Primary report Evans filed, with financial activity through February 26.

Evans had over $8K cash on hand through the 26th.

It should be at least $11,200, based on the FB post. It is definitely not $0 which the FB post infers.

SINCE the Pre-Primary report coverage date through 2/26, Evans has received large contributions totaling $4K according to FEC reports his campaign filed after 2/26, which added to the over $8K, puts him back over $11,200.

Whether he’s received additional contributions under $1K from donors is unknown.

I’m sure he’ll take care of the $11,200 appropriately, and given he’s not expected to advance today, he’ll take care of it timely.

While Evans is not alone to have “general election” funds within their cash on hand, none of the other candidates were close to going underneath the monies they are not to spend.

Of all the candidates, Ted Gradel had the most, which last I checked, was around $105K he will have to return to donors when he doesn’t win today.

Oberweis and Rezin owe amounts, through 3rd quarter, Oberweis’ was around $36K, and Rezin’s around $26K, but haven’t calculated their numbers recently.
