From the Geneva Chamber of Commerce this past week:

“Thank you for your support of this festival.

“Since 1949 this Granddaddy of Illinois festivals has provided fun for the whole family. Enjoy fabulous food, carnival rides live music & entertainment, plus Sweden Väst, our tent that’s everything Swedish.

“Please check back in next year for details on the 2021 festival!”

Since all of Geneva, the county seat of Kane County, is within the 14th congressional district, both Congresswoman Lauren Underwood and Republican challenger Jim Oberweis were to have large contingents in the Swedish Days parade, one of the longest and highest attended of any of the summer festival parades in the suburbs.

Per the chamber’s announcement above, this festival, unlike Harvard Milk Days, is cancelled for 2020.

The 2020 Geneva Days was scheduled for June 23-28, with the parade taking place on Saturday, June 27.

With summer festivals and parades scheduled to kickoff Memorial Day weekend and go through the Summer Sunset Festival and parade in Lake in the Hills on Labor Day weekend, there are likely going to be many more cancellations and postponements.

McHenry County Blog will keep the public informed of McHenry County communities schedule changes, as well as nearby festivals in neighboring counties.
