IL-6: Ives Chastises Dems for Seeking Multi-Ten Billion Bailout

From 6th congressional district Republican candidate Jeanne Ives:

Illinois Democrats Attempt to Grab COVID Relief Funds for Bailout

Sean Casten’s effort to hold up small business relief is NOT about testing, masks and ventilators

April 18, 2020 – And there it is.

Illinois Senate President Don Harmon outlined demands for a federal bailout of the State of Illinois in an official letter to members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.

Notably, the letter was published by Wirepoints.com, a public policy site, rather than a Chicago or Suburban media outlet, which continues their decades of service as the Illinois Democrat Party’s communication shop.

Liberal-leaning New York Times even posted a story.

Harmon’s letter is national news.

But our local media says nothing.

Monday, April 20, 2020, the Tribune ran an editorial.

And neither does Sean Casten. Wirepoints reports:

“The Democratic caucus seeks well over $41.6 billion, including important crisis-related relief such as $1 billion in public-health aid to minority communities and unspecified amounts for increased Medicaid reimbursements and hardship payments to health care facilities.

“But the vast majority of their request amounts to a national bailout of Illinois’ pre-pandemic failures. It includes:

  • $15 billion for a no-strings-attached block grant;
  • $6 billion for the state’s unemployment trust fund;
  • $10 billion for the state’s pension funds; and,
  • $9.6 billion in unrestricted aid to Illinois municipalities, again for pensions.

“…Also notable is that the $6 billion bailout for Illinois’ unemployment trust fund stems from the state’s comparatively poor management of it. Illinois, prior to the pandemic, had the fourth-worst funding level for that state fund.”

Jeanne Ives

“So the hold up on much needed relief for small businesses is NOT about needing more testing, masks and ventilators,” said Jeanne Ives, Candidate for Congress in IL-06.

“It is about getting a bailout for Illinois, after decades of political mismanagement.

“And Sean Casten has said nothing. Illinois Democrats are nothing if not consistent.

“One way or another, they will get taxpayers to pay for their big government failures.

“And they will use the least able to defend themselves – in this case, small business owners – to do it.

“Harmon’s letter reveals the truth: very powerful politicians are protecting their party over people in real need.

“They are seeking to benefit politically from a global health crisis.

“The malevolence of Sean Casten and Illinois Democrat politicians is stunning.”

  1. The last decent Democrat President was John Fitzgerald Kennedy, JFK. It is time to apply some of his thoughts about citizens giving back to their country rather than taking more and more out of it. If JFK were alive today, he would say to Illinois Democrat politicians throughout the State. “Ask not what the federal government (namely its taxpaying citizens and taxpaying private entity businesses) can do to bail out the decades of incompetence of Illinois Democrat politicians, but ask what school districts and current Democrat politicians and rich fat cats on government pensions and government salaries can do to solve Illinois fiscal mess.”

Instead of bailout of Illinois by Federal, Illinois MUST take these steps:

    – Governor and Legislature MUST declare a Fiscal State of Emergency and State Crisis calling for drastic fiscal measures
    – Eliminate COLAs forever for all pensions.
    – Put CAP on all government salaries (public schools, all government entities) so that top yearly salary is in a range of $100K-$150K
    – Put CAP on all government retiree pensions of $90K yearly
    – CAPS must stay in place until all pension funds are funded at 100 percent and State has paid all of its bills and State has ZERO debt
    – Move government employees to 401K type plans
    – Drastically cut spending
    – All income tax rates and types of taxes are frozen in place except vehicles
    – School districts must cut overall cost per student by 5 percent every year
    – Increase yearly license plate tag fees for large and heavy suvs and pickup trucks having weights of 5000 lbs and up with the minimum $250 for 5000 lbs and upward to $500 for 7500 lbs and higher

  2. The president of the Illinois State Senate seeks $40 billion to help the pension system, fund unemployment insurance and aid hospitals and cities according to the New York Times.

The letter, sent this week by State Senator Don Harmon, also seeks a $15 billion grant to “stabilize the state’s budget,” $9.6 billion in direct aid to Illinois’s cities, $6 billion for the state’s unemployment insurance fund, and hardship money for hospitals and nursing homes, among other things.

Messages left for State Senator Bill Brady, the minority leader, were not immediately returned on Friday evening. Democrats hold 40 of the State Senate’s 59 seats.

  3. Thank God you’re not in charge, bred:

    – Fiscal emergency? OK, I’ll give you that one.
    – Eliminate COLA? Requires a constitutional amendment.
    – Salary cap? Drive good educators away.
    – Cap pensions? See above.
    – Pensions funded, bills paid, no debt? Come back in 100 years.
    – Gov’t EE’s on 401(k) type plan? Fine.
    – Cut spending? Most departments already decimated.
    – Freeze tax rates except vehicles? Why not cut them in lieu of your other ideas?
    – Cut cost per student @ 5%/yr? There go more educators.
    – Base tag fees on weight? Won’t yield as much as you think.

You’re doing what Al Dunlap did to Sunbeam corp years ago or what Ed Lampert has been doing at Sears — you’re focusing on the expense side of the balance sheet too much.

It’s easy to cut, cut, cut, but a true leader will find ways to increase revenue.

  4. There’s no more revenue to be had, BigOrange.

The public sector has bled the private sector dry.

  5. – Eliminate COLA? Requires a constitutional amendment.

(See J.B. Pritzker fair tax initiative, requires a constitutional amendment)

    – Salary cap? Drive good educators away. (Where can they go and get more$$?

    – Cap pensions? See above. (Do it)

  6. Big Orange is big on criticism but has nothing to offer but a simplistic “find ways to increase revenue” which means what?

  7. That would be like a gambling addict going to the government and demanding they receive much more than 1200 dollars because of the debt they accumulated gambling.

    Casten is awful.

  8. did you expect anything different you live here, really! ?

pigs at the trough… gimme gimme gimme…
